Welcome Dave Snowdon
New CRI Boatman

| After having bid farewell to Seth Davis, our boatman for many years, at a 'Seth-a-bration' one evening this week we are very happy to welcome Dave Snowdon to CRI as our new boatman.
Dave joins us at an incredibly busy time with the start of our spring term and all that entails. All our competitive teams have gotten on the water, and spring recreational rowing has started as well. Dave is working very hard to get everything set for the season, and it is a long list! Once things have settled down, we'll introduce him on our website as well with his photo and bio. Until then, we welcome you Dave and thank you for all you have already accomplished!! |

CRI Youth Ergathon
Great Results and a Big Thank You to All!!

|
Over $30,000 was raised by the boys and girls competitive teams on Saturday, March 17 as part of the CRI Ergathon! It was an early morning for any teenager, but despite the hour, there were lots of smiles and laughs.
Many thanks to everyone who helped support the Ergathon: the athletes, parents, coaches and donors. This initiative truly "took a village" but it is a thing of beauty to see our Community come together for this worthwhile cause.
A special thanks to our parent coordinators, Suzi Garrity, Sharon Barrett and Jerry Hodges who organized the event, kept track of the totals and arranged for the event prizes. together they did a fantastic job of keeping the excitement level high and spreading word of our CRI mission! - Rowing for All.
Great work everyone!!

Bryan Fuller and Team Titan
More Than Halfway and Still Rowing

| Time at Sea: 23 days 18 hours.... Team Progress/TITAN Visit the Titan site and send a message of support!!
Bryan Fuller and his teammates, pictured above prior to shoving off, have been at sea for nearly 24 days!! They have been frustrated by weather conditions, lack of wind and now an undercurrent which, described in an update by the skipper, makes the crew feel, "as if they are rowing in concrete."
Though disappointed by the weather and the resulting slowed progress, the crew are cheered to have made the halfway mark and hope to have more favorable conditions help them to edge ahead of the current record holders for the crossing.
They have celebrated a birthday aboard, of the youngest crew member, and in celebration joined in the fun of a 'swim' to clean barnacles off Titan's hull.
Bryan continues to make the news. To read the most recent articles, click here:

CRI Has a History
Do You Know It?

| Do you know where CRI rowed in 1985? What about 1995? We're happy to announce the formation of a committee to document the history of CRI.
We need people to sift through archives, as well as people with ideas about how we can tell our story to others who only know the boathouse. If you're interested in helping, please email Jane Morse at:

Charles River Clean-Up
We Need a Few More CRI Folks...

|
Let's Pull Together to care for the river we at CRI love so much!!
Calling for CRI members to volunteer to assist with the 13th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup which will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 9am - 12pm. Volunteer groups will work together during a fun and rewarding event to enhance the Charles River. A cookout will also be offered after the Cleanup at the Hatch Shell for volunteers who would like to attend. CRI has participated in the past, and it would be nice to lend a hand once again. CRI has been invited to join the office of Senator Will Brownsberger to tend to stretches of the Charles here in Allston/Brighton, specifically between Eliot Bridge and the intersection of Nonantum Road and Galen Street - our very own neighborhood!! Senator Brownsberger's office will work with a group from CRI providing volunteer t-shirts, supplies and snacks for the event. We are hoping to find CRI members willing to get out there on April 21 and help. Here is what we need: 1.) A Volunteer Coordinator - mostly just a contact person 2.) 100 Volunteers To volunteer, please contact Nonna at: nonna.r.gale@gmail.com

Tracking Your Fitness
Begin With a VO2 Max Test
|
Are you looking for a personalized way to track your fitness this year? Start your season with a VO2 max test!
The test is a 10-12 minute, rowing specific, step test designed to measure your maximum aerobic power. This value indicates how much work you can do while remaining aerobic. If you are able to remain aerobic at a high workload, you will be able to continue to hold that pace for a longer period of time.
Tracking and training this system gives a rower a huge advantage over the course of a 1k or 2k race! Each test comes with a one-on-one consultation with our exercise physiologists, Dr. Andrew Taylor from Harvard Medical School and Glen Picard from the ExPD program, who will review your data and make training recommendations based on those values.
Discounted tests are still available but are going quickly. Please contact Judith Vogel for more information!
