With Deepest Sympathy to Maura Hammer
We wish to pass along the news to those of you who knew and worked with Maura Hammer that her father, Jack Walsh, passed away last week.

Earlier today, several CRI senior staff members had the honor of attending the funeral service for Maura's father Jack. Flowers were sent to Maura and her family on behalf of all of us in the CRI community.

We know that Maura and her family will appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Share your enthusiasm for CRI and the sport of rowing on the weekend of February 10th - 12th!

We are looking for volunteers to make the 'What Works' Summit 2012 a one of a kind experience. Here is an opportunity to draw participants into the engaging and welcoming community that is CRI.

Volunteers will be asked to complete an evening training session prior to the start of the 'What Works' Summit. This meeting is important as we will review the tasks that each volunteer position is required to complete. The rehearsal time gives us the opportunity to streamline and sync the volunteer roles. It is also a great time to meet the people with whom you will be working!

Volunteer Positions
- Breakout Room(s) Assistant
- Greeter

The volunteer training meetings are on February 2nd and February 7th at 6:30pm in the 1980 Room (Meeting Room). You may attend either meeting as we will review the same information.

Upon registering for your shift(s), you will receive an email further detailing your responsibilities for the shift(s).

            The January Virtual Team Challenge
How Far Have We Erged?
A VERY Long Way Indeed!!

Tonight at midnight is the end of the January challenge. Team CRI is currently in second place, first among the on the water teams. We logged 6.6 million meters last week and currently stand at 27.7 million meters, with the junior teams still to practice today. We're 2.9 million meters ahead of the Free Spirits in third and they are 1.3 million ahead of the Croatians. Riverside is in 7th, with 15.3 million meters.

While the rowing is finished at midnight tonight, there still are 3 days to enter meters, so there may be some moving around before the challenge closes its books on Friday.

We've had some outstanding individual performances. Olivier Schueller continues to lead our team, with 669,535 meters. Rachel Wolsfelt has 521,324. We have 5 rowers with more than 400,000 meters:  Martha Cosgrove, Claire Perreault, Rachel Gould, Kevin Dutt, and Bill McGowan. Twenty rowers are above 300,000 39 above 200,000, and 100 above 100,000. We've had great efforts by our adaptive program, Row Boston, the veterans, the junior rowers and the adults.  Great work by everyone!

Where are we? Our latitude circle around the world is at 46 degrees 15 minutes - just north of the Canadian border with Vermont and New Hampshire. On the west coast, it's close to the Washington - Oregon border. Continuing west, it's just north of the north island in Japan, across Mongolia, the north end of the Caspian and Black Seas, through northern Italy and southern France, and then across the Atlantic to Nova Scotia and Northern Maine. Quite a trip.

Thanks for all the support. Get your meters in by Friday, dated in January. Look for the wall of certificates next week!!

Go CRI!!

CRI Military and Veteran's Rowing Challenge
Operation "Rulers of Ergagement" Begins

CRI Military and Veterans are challenged to compete within their Military Branch of Service (Coast Guard, Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force) to row the most meters in the month of February.

Participants can produce meters at CRI or any other location that has an erg. CRI Veterans and Military members can enlist their military peers to help out in their branch of service  to row the most meters. They will be competing both within the CRI community and the world via the Concept 2 Military Challenge.

CRI Youth Erg-a-Thon
Saturday, March 17th
Erg-a-thon
Mark your calendars:  CRI Youth Ergathon will take place on Saturday, March 17th!

This annual fundraising event is the time when the youth competitive teams pull together to help the CRI community as a whole. The funds raised at this year's Ergathon will benefit the CRI Annual Fund. The youth teams recognize the importance of rowing and CRI in their lives.  They are excited with this opportunity to be able to help other rowers within the CRI community.

Over the next 7 weeks the youth teams will be challenging themselves and each other to raise funds for the Ergathon.  They will be reaching out beyond their parents for donations: their extended families, neighbors, friends, teachers, local businesses.  Some of the girls have already established their online fundraising site at Razoo.com:

http://www.razoo.com/team/Competitivegirlsergathon2012

The goal set for this year is $60,000.  Please remember to check in with the weekly e-newsletter to see how the teams are doing and what you can do to help!

Thank you for your support!!
