KEEP HEALTHY - Wipe Down EQUIPMENT BEFORE and AFTER Every Workout!!!
Reduce The Spread of Germs and Sickness
| Winter is prime time for folks getting sick, and a lot of nasty bugs and viruses can spread easily when using shared spaces and equipment.
Please take precautions for yourself and all of the other rowers using the facilities here at CRI this winter. To avoid the spread of germs which spread illness, be sure to wipe down equipment (ergs, weights, and bikes - anything you grasp with your hands) BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER EVERY WORKOUT!! Stay healthy! |

CRI Youth Erg-a-Thon
Saturday, March 17th
| Mark your calendars: CRI Youth Ergathon will take place on Saturday, March 17th!
This annual fundraising event is the time when the youth competitive teams pull together to help the CRI community as a whole. The funds raised at this year's Ergathon will benefit the CRI Annual Fund. The youth teams recognize the importance of rowing and CRI in their lives. They are excited with this opportunity to be able to help other rowers within the CRI community. Over the next 7 weeks the youth teams will be challenging themselves and each other to raise funds for the Ergathon. They will be reaching out beyond their parents for donations: their extended families, neighbors, friends, teachers, local businesses. Some of the girls have already established their online fundraising site at Razoo.com: http://www.razoo.com/team/Competitivegirlsergathon2012 The goal set for this year is $60,000. Please remember to check in with the weekly e-newsletter to see how the teams are doing and what you can do to help! Thank you for your support!! |
The January Virtual Team Challenge
How Far Have We Erged? A VERY Long Way Indeed!!
Team CRI has rowed half way around the world since January 1! In all we've logged 20.6 million meters.
Last week alone we rowed 7 million meters, continuing our 1 million meters per day record. We're moved from third place to second place in the competition, and remain first among the on-the-water clubs. We rowed through the Free Spirits who are now 1.3 million meters behind us. But the Croatian team, HAVK Mladost has moved on us. A week ago they were 5.2 million meters behind us and now are only 1.7 million meters back! Riverside is 9.5 million meters behind us. We've got our work cut out for us in the last week of the challenge. DIG DEEP AND HOLD OFF THE CROATIANS!!!
We've had some outstanding individual performances. Olivier Schueller leads our team, having passed the 500,000 meter mark. Martha Cosgrove is only 7,000 meters behind Olivier. They've been trading the lead all month. Behind them we've got Rachel Wolsfelt, Claire Perreault, Rachel Gould, and Kevin Dutt who have each logged more than 300,000 meters. Twenty rowers are over 200,000 meters and 44 have 100,000 meters this month. Great work by everyone participating!! It takes us all to row
Where are we? In the Indian Ocean off the western edge of Australia. We know the course lines from here - we've already rowed them. Another way to look at our distance is to think about a circle of latitude going around the earth. At the north pole, we could row around the earth with just a few meters. A week ago with 13.6 million meters our circumferential circle was at latitude 70. But a week later and having rowed 20.6 million meters, we've completed the circle at latitude 59 degrees, and would have visited Juneau Alaska, Bergen Norway, and Helsinki Finland along the way. The boathouse is at latitude 42 or 30 million meters; the northern boundary of Vermont and New Hampshire is latitude 45 or 28.5 million meters. Let's go for the boathouse!!
A couple of reminders:
1) While the deadline has passed for joining the team, you can still help out by logging your meters on the clipboards in the community room. We've set up some CRI logbooks and we'll put your meters there. Or just email them to us.
2) All meters rowed from January 1 to January 31 count - they just have to be logged.
3) Sunday afternoon 1 pm to 4 pm is movie afternoon - come join us for as much time as you can spare. The feature film is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.
Go CRI!!
