The January Virtual Team Challenge Has Begun!                         CRI Needs YOUR Meters!!
Charles River in the Snow 09
Keep Yourself Warm This January by Erging Around The World With                          Our Team: Community Rowing, Inc

A week ago - January 3 - we had 85 members of our team who had logged 804,717 meters.  We were in 9th place overall and 4th among on-the-water clubs, below the Croatians, and Riverside.  In the past week, 124 people have joined the team and we've logged 5,799,637 meters!!  We're in 4th place overall and 1st among on the water clubs with a total of 6,505,354 meters.  Riverside is more than 2 million meters behind us and the Croatians are 200,000 behind them.  On Sunday alone, we logged 1.36 million meters, fueled in part by a great turnout of more than 30 rowers at Sunday afternoon movies.

How far is 6.5 million meters?  If we were to head north-northwest from the boathouse for 6.5 million meters we'd have gone over Canada and Alaska and be in Eastern Russia.  Heading west, we'd be over the Pacific Ocean, 1.5 million meters east of the Hawaiian Islands.  Or if we headed northeast from the boathouse we're in Vienna, Austria.

A couple of reminders:

1)      You can still join our team** and any meters you log for January count.  But the deadline is next Sunday, January 15th. You can get directions for joining at the front desk at the boathouse.

2)      If you don't want to log your meters in the on-line log, you can write them on one of the clipboards in the community room.  We'll do the data entry.  To get a certificate, you need to have made your first entry by Sunday, so we have you as part of the team.

3)      Sunday afternoon 1 pm to 4 pm is movie afternoon - come join us for as much time as you can spare.

There are two virtual teams ahead of us that I think we can catch if we all work together.  The LUNA-TICS are 700,000 meters ahead of us and the Free Spirits are just shy of a million meters ahead of us.  Let's show them our move this week!!

Presentation Description:

CrossFit has been rapidly spreading throughout the fitness world and has created an alternative to athlete development in many sports.  Neal Thompson, founder of CrossFit Boston, will be on hand to give us more information about CrossFit, and how it can be applied toward training for competitive rowers.  Join us to learn more about this emerging & effective training methodology.

About the Presenter:

Neal Thompson CFB

Neal Thompson is the founder of CrossFit Boston.  He received a B.S. in Business Administration from Bucknell University, 1999.  He was a key member of Bucknell University's Bison football team, and was named Tri-Captain his senior year.  He has been involved in coaching people in health & fitness for 11 years.  Neal found his passion in physical culture as a young teenager when he first began wrestling in his hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania.  While in college Neal attended a USA Weightlifting Club Coach Certification being taught by Leo Totten, a well-known Sr. International Coach of Team USA Weightlifting, thus he began his journey as a Weightlifting coach.  Neal works with all populations.  He designs his programs to be scalable to any individual, from beginner to professional athlete.
