Welcome to Buffy Pennick
Annual Fund Coordinator
Buffy Pennick

Buffy Pennick

As Annual Fund Coordinator, Buffy will be involved with a lot of special events and regularly around the boathouse as she brings everyone together to meet CRI's ongoing funding needs and successfully expand CRI's Annual Fund.

Buffy is working with the CRI community, staff, and volunteers to deepen connections to rowers and parents, improve communication across the membership and create connections between the different programs that row at CRI.

Buffy comes to CRI with a depth of fundraising knowledge from her work with non-profits on Cape Cod.  With a love of nature and a passion for birding, she looks forward to learning to row!

CRI  2012 Annual Fund
Supporting Our Future!

CRI's Annual Fund kicked off a couple of weeks ago.  This year's goal is to raise $150,000 - funds which will be used to help fulfill our mission of Rowing for All!

Funding priorities for 2012 include: a fleet of 10 new Vespoli eights, a coaching education program that improves instruction for all our programs and enhances the knowledge of coaches for clubs up and down the river, and outreach programs that introduce rowing to thousands of Boston middle school students.

During this season of giving please consider a gift to CRI's Annual Fund.  Please don't miss out on this extraordinary opportunity to share your passion to help change the lives of others with the transformative power of rowing!

Donations may be made securely online by clicking on the 'Dontate Now' button on the CRI website homepage at: www.communityrowing.org or,

Thanks For All The Wonderful Toys!
CRI Pulls Together for Local Toy Drive and Spreads Holiday Cheer

Many, many thanks to all of our members who brought delightful gifts for the holiday toy drive. What a treasure trove of fun - books, games, building sets, tiaras, cards, footballs and more!

The gifts were delivered today to the '21 Nickels Toy Drive' where they will be distributed to local Allston and Brighton children, as well as to children at the Franciscan Children's Hospital.

Happy Holidays everyone, and thanks for the toys! The children will enjoy them, and that is what this season of lights, giving and new beginnings is all about.

Cheers!

A note from Bryan Fuller: Please support me in my row across the Atlantic Ocean.  By supporting me you will be helping me bring attention to Community Rowing, Inc. a non-profit boat house on the Charles River that is reaching out to military and veterans to teach them to row.  This program specifically helps disabled veterans learn to row using specially designed boats to fit their needs. Community Rowing, Inc. goal is to provide disabled veterans the structure and training necessary to one day compete in the Paralympics.

My row will begin this February 2012 and start off the coast of Africa and proceed along Trade Wind I route to Barbados.  Our team, Titan, is made up of seven dedicated rowers captained by Simon Chalk, the worlds most experienced ocean rower.  The current records stands at 32 days and we have high expectations of smashing it.  Because this such a high profile event with record breaking implications, the training and support I have received from Community Rowing, Inc. will bring them the much needed private and corporate sponsorship to help keep this program afloat.

Your donations will go to help me fund my fee for my seat on the boat, all other expenses will be born by myself.  The fee is $25,000, but my expectation is that I will raise more than that.  All donations above that amount will go to fund this terrific program, (CRI's Veteran's Rowing Program.)

You will be able to follow my row online and track my progress towards Barbados.  Each member of the team will be expected to row 15 hours a day and will remain on our 34 foot long, 6 foot wide boat the whole time.  All supplies will be taken with us at the start of the race.

Thank you for supporting me and CRI's Veterans Rowing Program.

Big Energy Savings at Boathouse
Modifications In Lighting Bring Savings To CRI
Winter 2008 - 2009 1
Following an energy audit done in the early fall under the MASS SAVES program and initiated by our bookkeeper Tara, the Harry Parker Boathouse has just completed modifications to our lighting systems. A combination of new low energy fixtures and ballasts, occupancy sensors and timers in the locker rooms and repair bay are estimated to save CRI over $1300 per year in electricity.  As an added bonus, 95% of the cost of the modifications was covered by NSTAR and the installing company, Rise Engineering. Total cost to CRI of the modifications is less than $200.

Thanks to this program, bathroom and locker room lights will shut off after 20 minutes of no motion, and the shower lights are now on a 15 minute timer. The locker room and shop fixtures are also a much more natural color light, and use less energy.

If you are interested in a free energy audit and subsidized energy savings programs, check out: http://www.masssave.com/.
