CRI Scullers at Blue Heron Regatta
CRI Scullers/Blue Heron Regatta

Three scullers from CRI joined twenty others for the Inaugural Blue Heron Regatta. Hosted by Amoskeag Rowing Club on Saturday, Aug 13.
Modeled after the Black Fly Regatta, with a mass start - everyone starts at the same time - the race was rowed on the Merrimack River on the same 4 mile course as the NH Championships.

CRI sculler Karen Schusterman won her age category and Rony Sebok came in second in her catergory. Lynn Salmonsen was the third CRI entrant.

The Blue Heron Regatta will be an annual event. The novel format of the race and fun prizes such as home brew cider, blueberries and blueberry preserves make the regatta a unique event for single scullers.

DCR Survey
Voice your opinion

Please Respond to the DCR Survey and help rowers be heard!  Make sure you put a comment in about the absence of rowers from the survey!

Under the Land & Water Conservation Fund Act (LWCF), states work closely with the National Park Service to analyze recreation needs, set priorities for funding, and supervise and coordinate the selection of projects.  In order to remain eligible for funding from the Land & Water Conservation Fund grant program, the National Parks Service requires every state to complete a Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) every five years - the SCORP is the state's Open Space and Recreation Plan, and provides regional data for the entire state.  To help inform the SCORP process and guide future use of LWCF funds, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is conducting a survey to gather data about Commonwealth residents' preferences for recreational activities.  To participate in the survey, please click.

Jog For Jill
Join Team Dirty Water

Race day registration begins at 8:00am. Shotgun start
at 9:00am. Post-race celebration 10:00-11:30am.

Jog For Jill, a 5K race named for Cal cox Jill Costello, will take

place at Artesani Park in Brighton, MA on Sunday September 11th

Funds raised will go to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.

Jill Costello was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer at the end of her junior year. She was a non-smoker with no family history of the disease. After enduring multiple treatments, she returned the spring of her senior year to earn a seat in the varsity 8. Coached by Dave O'Neill, formerly of Boston College, Jill coxed her boat to a first place finish at the Pac-10 championship. Told she had less than a month to live, Jill continued with the team to the national championships. In her final race, her boat finished fourth. As a team, Cal finished second nationally. Less than a month later, Jill succumbed to her disease.

Jill believed that one should "do what makes you happy in this moment and your life will be full." Most of us row for the same reason.I've created a team - Big Time Dirty Water -- and would love to get rowers from all the clubs in Boston to join. Please consider running, donating, or volunteering.
