Canadian Henley Results!
Superb Effort by CRI Juniors

CRI 2011 Canadian Henley - Junior Girls Varsity Eight captured Gold

In short, the entire Junior Boys & Girls teams are utterly exhausted from a hectic week of racing at the 2011 Canadian Henley last week ... but we all returned home elated and victorious!!  So we have now wrapped up the 2010 - 2011 rowing year with yet another BANG ... 4 Gold medals (and many boats making their event finals).  Here are the major highlights:

  •         For the second consecutive year, the Junior Varsity Girls captured Gold in both the U19 Eight as well as the U19 Four events!!
  •         And they also captured Gold in both the U-17 Single as well as the U-17 Double events!
  •         The Junior Varsity Boys placed 4th in the U19 Eight event.
  •         For full official results, too many to list here, please visit >>> http://www.henleyregatta.ca/en/henley-results.php

Congratulations to the entire CRI team and their diligent coaches for another successful year ... job well done!  In the meantime, a smaller contingent of 13 Varsity Girls are staying behind in Canada and continuing their quest for yet another challenge this week ... proudly representing the USA National Team at the 2011 CanAmMex (Canada - America - Mexico).  Please stay tuned for their results later this Friday.

Best wishes for the rest of the summer ... rest while you can ... and we shall return refreshed and ready for the new 2011 - 2012 rowing year shortly ... GO CRI !!!

As usual, many thanks to our team photographer, Gerry Roy, for his dedication in capturing all the wonderful memories throughout last week at Henley for all to peruse leisurely at his Photo Galleries >>>   http://garoyimaging.com/gallery-6-High-School-2011.html

Gerry also captured a short video of the Senior 52kg Women's Four event, in which we entered 4 of our feather-weight coxswains, whom in turn were coxed by a rower ... go figure ... they came in a respectable 4th place ... ahem, as in last ... but what fun for them and also the spectators! The 4 boats of Gold medalists are also appended below (apologies for not having access to all the shots taken at the medal stands, but will share more as they become available from other sources later).  Enjoy!

DCR Survey
Voice your opinion

Please Respond to the DCR Survey and help rowers be heard!  Make sure you put a comment in about the absence of rowers from the survey!

Under the Land & Water Conservation Fund Act (LWCF), states work closely with the National Park Service to analyze recreation needs, set priorities for funding, and supervise and coordinate the selection of projects.  In order to remain eligible for funding from the Land & Water Conservation Fund grant program, the National Parks Service requires every state to complete a Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) every five years - the SCORP is the state's Open Space and Recreation Plan, and provides regional data for the entire state.  To help inform the SCORP process and guide future use of LWCF funds, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is conducting a survey to gather data about Commonwealth residents' preferences for recreational activities.  To participate in the survey, please click.

Jog For Jill 2011
Join Team Dirty Water

Race day registration begins at 8:00am. Shotgun start
at 9:00am. Post-race celebration 10:00-11:30am.

Jog For Jill, a 5K race named for Cal cox Jill Costello, will take

place at Artesani Park in Brighton, MA on Sunday September 11th

Funds raised will go to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.

Jill Costello was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer at the end of her

junior year. She was a non-smoker with no family history of the disease.

After enduring multiple treatments, she returned the spring of her senior

year to earn a seat in the varsity 8. Coached by Dave O'Neill, formerly

of Boston College, Jill coxed her boat to a first place finish at the Pac-10

championship. Told she had less than a month to live, Jill continued with

the team to the national championships. In her final race, her boat finished

fourth. As a team, Cal finished second nationally. Less than a month later,

Jill succumbed to her disease.

Jill believed that one should "do what makes you happy in this moment

and your life will be full." Most of us row for the same reason. I've created

a team - Big Time Dirty Water -- and would love to get rowers from all the

clubs in Boston to join. Please consider running, donating, or volunteering.
