The Gold Standard: An Expert Coach's Inside View of the UK's Rowing Dynasty

ABSTRACT: The talk will be presented in 2 parts. PART 1: Rob will focus on the British (GB) rowing system, which produces the national team for both the world championships and Olympic games. With one eye on 2012 Rob will give his insights into the way the GB rowing team has risen to the top of world rowing, and is aiming high for the Games. PART 2: Rob will discuss GB's prestigious Leander Club and how Leander produces a great number of outstanding rowers for the national team. Rob will talk about Leander Club's 'Gold Standard' for selecting, developing and managing its athletes, and the core principles behind its success. YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS PRESENTATION (!) About the Presenter: Rob Dauncey, BSc Rob is the High Performance Coach at Leander Club which is the premier club in the UK. Leander produces more athletes for the GB team than any other. Rob has also been coaching the GB team since 1998. Those he has coached have won 17 medals at the U23 and Senior World Championships. Rob has an academic background in human physiology and sport science, as well as over 30 years participating in rowing. He has excellent knowledge of and experience in elite rowing and the British selection system for the national teams.
