Guerrilla Rowing

Guerrilla Rowing is a Strength and Conditioning class that will improve your Fitness and teach you how to move better, both in the boat and in life.  This Revolutionary Off-Water Workout features constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement, which captures all the cardiovascular benefit of endurance exercise while promoting and increasing strength, muscle, speed, and power.  Each session includes a focus on mobility, a dynamic warm-up, new skill work, a fun but intense workout, and a cool down stretch for flexibility.  Every class is led and instructed by CrossFit Level 1 Certified Coach Patrick Larcom.  This week all classes are free so come check it out and bring a friend.  For the month of August classes will be $10 a session and can be paid in advance or as you go.  No matter what, your first class will be free and whenever you bring a friend your class will be free.  Classes will be held twice daily as well as Saturdays if there is demand.

Also keep an eye out for a rowing and fitness based program for the fall!

Monthly Coaching Symposium
Sponsored by CRI's Coaching Education Proram

Next week, Wednesday, August 10th 2011, at 7pm we welcome Mr. Robert Dauncey, BSc., currently High Performance Coach at England's prestigious Leander Club.  We are truly excited to have Rob present on Great Britain's (GB) rowing development programs, and bestow upon us some of the best and most contemporary coaching/rowing practices.

Rob has coached at every level of rowing from novice to Senior International.  His coaching skills have garnered great success in his 15 year tenure in GB's coaching ranks, with more than 30 of his protégé being selected for GB's national rowing teams (including the Olympics) and 15 medal winning rowers.   There is no doubt that Rob is someone who's methods help produce rowing excellence.

Please join us!  Again, Rob will be speaking on the evening, Wednesday, August 10th from 7 - 8:30pm.  Refreshments and Pizza will be served at the conclusion of the presentation during our Q & A forum.

Please invite anyone you feel would benefit from hearing Rob's rowing & coaching expertise.   See you all next Wednesday!

DCR Survey
Voice your opinion

Please Respond to the DCR Survey and help rowers be heard!  Make sure you put a comment in about the absence of rowers from the survey!

Under the Land & Water Conservation Fund Act (LWCF), states work closely with the National Park Service to analyze recreation needs, set priorities for funding, and supervise and coordinate the selection of projects.  In order to remain eligible for funding from the Land & Water Conservation Fund grant program, the National Parks Service requires every state to complete a Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) every five years - the SCORP is the state's Open Space and Recreation Plan, and provides regional data for the entire state.  To help inform the SCORP process and guide future use of LWCF funds, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is conducting a survey to gather data about Commonwealth residents' preferences for recreational activities.  To participate in the survey, please click.

Volunteer Opportunities

Free Barge Rides
CRI is offering free barge rowing lessons August, 6, 13, 20, and 27, from 10am -12 noon.  We are looking for volunteers to help out with rowing, instructing, collecting waivers, etc.  This is a great way to promote the program and help get people excited for the Rumble on September 18th.
