Ryan Banks to Step Down as Director of Operations

It's with regret that CRI announces the departure of Ryan as Director of Operations, effective in early May. Since Ryan joined our staff in 2006, he has hired, trained, and motivated many of the CRI staff to become top coaches in their  field.

In the next few weeks a CRI search committe comprised of staff, coaches and board members will begin to look for the next Director of Operations.

It is with warm regards that we wish Ryan success as he assumes his new position, within his families business, in Gloucester, MA.

10k for the Boatbay

Erg-a-thon

Saturday, April 23rd, 11am-1pm

  ERG

Support the CRI Competitive Girls Varsity and Novice Teams in their annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 23rd as they jump on the ergs and row 10K for the boatbay!

The funds raised will be used directly towards the purchase of much needed equipment, including new eights for the youth competitive teams!  The CRI Competitive Teams have a goal of $25,000 for this year's ergathon.  Help fill the boatbay by making your donation today!

Pledges can be made directly on each rower's fundraising page - look for their email!

Does the faster ergometer score of

the heavier rower translate to

on-water performance?

Presented by Joe Bouscaren, M.D.

Concept 2 Erg

Intro: How often do we find ourselves lured into an athlete's "raw data" and conclude that h/her power will guarantee a fast boat?  Is it not interesting (and often perplexing) that we assemble rowing line-ups only to find that moving a boat may require more than data, more than watts?  Come find out!

ABSTRACT: Join us to hear Joe's specialized research, his findings and his analysis.  He will explain how using a "legs and back only" method revealed data that helped develop the RowPerfect erg, and the new Concept 2 Dynamic Indoor rower.  In the discussion Joe will elaborate on various lactate threshold (LT) protocols, the concept of VO2Max, and whether time on the slide is truly wasted.  Joe will also discuss why the term "rigging heavy" could be a misnomer.

Race Results

The Junior Boys and Girls Varsity Teams competed at Kent School on Sunday

We got off to a great start at our first race this season at Kent, CT, and both our Varsity Girls & Boys teams won practically all their races!  Here is a summary as confirmed by the hosting coaches after the races (distance approx 1700 meters):

Varsity Girls:  All of our 5 Eights won easily (i.e. wide open water) by over 10 seconds, including our 5th beating their 4th boat!

Conditions: Wind was variable, gusting head wind on and off throughout the day. Following current and moderate chop when the wind picked up.
Comments: Floating start so races started above and below the starting line so times between races should not be compared. Fourth boat race started well below the line, second boat race also started below the line.

Varsity Boys:  Our 2nd and 3rd Eights won over both Kent and St. John's, and our 1st came in third after having to restart the race (see comments below).

Conditions: Following current, variable gusting head wind increasing throughout the day. The water was choppy when the wind was up, but less so when the wind was mild.

Comments: Floating start so times should not be compared as the start positioning was variable. In the boys first boat race boats started once and about 400 meters into the race the CRI boat pushed into Kent's lane pushing Kent toward St. John's. In order to avoid a 3 boat crash, race was stopped and crews rowed back up to the line for a restart.

Our team photographer, Gerry Roy, was on site as usual to capture everything at Kent, and you may peruse hundreds of shots in the comfort of your own home with a simply click to his website: www.garoyimaging.com and click on the "Quick View" link on the left panel.  A couple finishing shots of our 1V boats are also appended below ... enjoy!
