Annual Appeal Update

Thanks to the incredible generosity of CRI's rowers and friends, the Annual Appeal has raised over $37,000 since the phonathon began on December 6th!

In total, 138 members of the CRI community have given a total of $37,330 to date, just shy of 50% raised towards our $75,000 goal.

If you have yet to give, please consider making a gift this year.  No gift is too small.  We are looking for 100% participation from all teams. This year the Annual Appeal supports CRI's outreach programs, which you can read about below.  Remember, you haven't really experienced the joy of rowing until you've given the gift to someone else.

CRI's OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Each year CRI offer free rowing programs to more than 600 youth and adults who otherwise would not have access to the sport. (See below for details on each of CRI's 4 community outreach programs: Adaptive, Veterans, G-ROW and Boys Row Boston.)

1)   Adaptive Rowing offers 50 youth and adults with physical and emotional challenges the chance to row recreationally and competitively. Adaptive rowers meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and when scheduled race on weekends in the summer and fall. In addition, CRI offers free rowing sessions to students at the Perkins School for the Blind and young adults from the Newton Special Athletes Program.

2)   Veterans Rowing provides a healthy outlet for one time and ongoing rowing sessions for 100 active and returning service members, many of whom are suffering from PTSD and/or physical trauma. The US Olympic Committee recently awarded this program a grant to support military rowers interested in learning to row and possibly competing in the 2012 Paralympics.

3)   G-ROW BOSTON (G-Row) was established in 1998, as the first rowing program in the country designed for urban girls. Today, G-ROW offers after school rowing and academic support to 200 girls in the Boston public schools.  Since the program's inception nearly 100% of participants have gone on to college.

4)   Boys Row Boston (BRB) is launching this winter and will offer 20 urban boys living in under resourced neighborhoods the opportunity to learn to row and to receive tutoring

2011 Power and Grace Calendar

The USA Women's National Team is currently fundraising to ease the burden of day to day training expenses for athletes training for the 2012 London Olympics. As you're finishing up (or just beginning) your holiday shopping, you can help!

Please purchase a 2011 Power and Grace Calendar - featuring stunning photographs of the team- on sale NOW for ONLY $10!  For the first time ever, the country's best rowers are photographed from an intimate perspective showcasing their beauty and strength.  It's the perfect holiday gift, stocking stuffer, empowerment momento or monthly inspiration for people of all ages.

100% of the calendar proceeds will fund US National Team's daily living and training expenses. Training on the US Rowing team is a full- time job, requiring 45+ hours of workouts per week. Unfortunately the job doesn't come with a comberable salary....so every little bit helps!

The team is halfway to selling their goal of 3000 calendars.  Current Riverside member and stroke of the 2010 World Championship Quad, Natalie Dell, is reaching out to the Boston community to help the team reach their goal.
