Youth Competitive Season
Ended on a High Note
by Phil Wong
The Youth Competitive season ended this past Sunday in a high note as it has done throughout this entire Fall. All four teams - Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys, Novice Girls and Novice Boys - dominated each and every race they entered at the Merrimack Chase in Methuen, MA. Congratulations to all four teams and their diligent coaches!

To add a little flair to their last regatta this season, the Varsity Girls decided to dress up (their attire & boats) and raced a "joyous regatta" in their events.
In retrospect, the Youth Competitive team has finished the 2010 year with an unprecedented success:
First ever Gold Medal at the 2010 US Youth Nationals (Girls Lightweight 8+) in addition to setting a course record!!
Various Gold Medals at the 2010 US Club Nationals. More Gold Medals at the 2010 Canadian Henley. Several athletes invited by US Rowing to its Selection Camp resulting in one CRI member making the ranks of the 2010 US Youth National High Performance Team. Ending the year with a Gold Medal at the 2010 Head of the world renowned Charles Regatta!
Looking ahead, the Youth Competitive team is busily preparing for an aggressive schedule in 2011, as follows:
December to February = Winter Training ... heading indoors as soon as the Charles freezes over!
February = Florida winter training trip. April = Oakland Invitational (as before hosted by our good friends at Oakland Strokes, CA). May = NE Regionals (switching back to Worcester,MA)
June = US Youth Nationals (relocated to Oakridge, TN). July = US Club Nationals (newly announced relocation to Indianapolis, IN). August = Canadian Henley (same as past years).
Never a dull moment for the Youth Competitive teams ... GO CRI !!! |
