The Coaching Education Symposium Series
at Community Rowing Inc. is pleased to host Robert Lee with his presentation titled:

Optimizing Individual Training: One person's attempt to be the fastest possible

Date: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 (TOMORROW)!
Time: 7pm - 8:30pm
Place: Harry Parker Boathouse
Entrance: Open to all / $5.00 Entrance Fee (CRI Staff are Free)!   Abstract: As we approach the winter training season and begin to increase our training volume using the C2 ergometer to "build an aerobic base" we might wonder .... How much training volume is too much?"  Is more volume really better?  If so, what intensity levels result in the optimal training response?  How do I measure my training response?   Am I overtraining, under-training?

Bob will share his personal story - a former collegiate athlete who, in his late 50s decided that rowing would become his lifelong sport - as a framework (i.e. case study) for the presentation.  He will present the use of EPOC (excess post-oxygen consumption) as it relates to a measure of optimal training and conditioning for rowing.  In the last 7 years, using EPOC and a software program designed by First Beat Technologies, Bob has catapulted himself from 47th to 4th fastest in the 65-69 age category at the annual Crash-B event.

Through Bob's presentation we will learn:

  • The concept of using EPOC for training
  • The use of First Beat software & C2 monitor integration
  • How EPOC can be used accurately as a measure of training load & effect

Come join us for this interesting and important discussion on how to improve erg performance and prevent overtraining.

NOTE/REMINDER: Refreshments & Pizza will be served at the conclusion of our presentation.

Please join us for this month's Symposium.  By attending you will help to professionalize the discipline of sports coaching in the U.S., especially the sport of rowing.  Moreover, attending these presentations will glean you a better understanding of our sport and your coaching craft.  Win - Win.  We can all learn from each other.  See you there!

DIRECTIONS!  If using GPS, input "100 Nonantum Rd, Watertown, M.A." and not our street address.

CRI's Coaching Education Series will host a new speaker on the third Tuesday of each month.  We look forward to seeing you for this, and future presentations!
