Veterans Learn to Row Day HUGE Success
This past Sunday, about 45 veterans and their
family members
learned to row at CRI. The Vets and their families were thrilled with
the day
and have expressed overwhelming interest in continuing to row with us!
Whether you are a seasoned member of CRI, a new friendly face, or part
of
one of the youth teams, your work on Sunday was invaluable! CRI is grateful to The Home Base Organization,
Harvard
Veterans Organization, and the Boston Area VA hospitals for helping us
to
promote this event. We would also like to thank all of our members who
volunteered especially our youngest rowers-CRI's Novice Girls Team,
who came out in big numbers and worked diligently throughout the
morning. Without
everyone's help the day would not have been nearly as wonderful.
Visit Row2k for full coverage of the event. There
are some
really great quotes from many of the vets and our coaches.

Independence Day
CRI will be closed July 3rd, 4th, and 5th for the holiday weekend. The

INVITATION
TO JOIN THE HEAD OF THE CHARLES UMPIRE CORPS Regatta
dates: Friday, October 22nd - Sunday, October 24th, 2010
The
HOCR course is the most challenging headrace in the world, with narrow bridge
openings, many tight turns, and lots of boats competing. Each year a corps of 125 keen-eyed
umpires observes every meter of the twisting course to insure that the Head Of
The Charles is safe and fair for its thousands of competitors. We invite you to join this terrific
team of umpires in 2010.
We
provide:
HOCR training
and certification of all new umpires via a training session held the
morning of September 25th.
Included is intensive training in how to evaluate interference
situations; A final training and
logistics info session on the Friday afternoon of race weekend, October 16th (starts at 5:00pm); Refreshments
(including great early morning coffee) and lunch service via the
bicycle delivery team on race weekend; Transportation
services to and from the Cambridge Boat Club and distant umpire stations
along the river; The opportunity to
contribute to the success of the HOCR and to learn a different side of
rowing as a part of the Station Umpire Teams lead by experienced USRA
Referees-you'll be surprised at what you don't know about successful racing on the Charles! Interested
in helping? We need volunteers
with rowing experience, focus, judgment, and the willingness to invest some
training time and 1-2 days "on station" to make the HOCR the best regatta
possible. Please join the team.
