Amsterdam

Heineken Roeivierkamp

On March 13 and 14, ten women from the CRI Competitive Team and two scullers participated in the 38th Heineken Roeivierkamp. The race, organized each year by Amsterdam Rowing Club Nereus and sponsored by the Heineken Brewery is a multiple distance 2-day rowing regatta. The Regatta, which is placed on the official FISA rowing calendar, is the traditional opening of the Dutch rowing season and it is known for its unique format.

The Heineken Roeivierkamp is held on the river Amstel in Amsterdam, close to the historic center of the city. Each team rows up to four distances: 250 meters, 750 meters, 2500 meters and 5000 meters. This format makes the regatta more challenging than other races; crews need to have the stamina to perform at long-distance but also need the skills for a short sprint. To make the races even more competitive, the bow order for the distances on Sunday (5000m) is determined by the crew's place in races on Saturday; the fastest crews start last. This guarantees spectacular races and demands skillful coxing.

The race is only open to eights and coxed quads. CRI had entries for a Womens B8+ and a Womens D4x+, finishing 6th and 5th in their event, respectively. CRI borrowed boats from the Royal Amsterdam Boat Club "De Hoop" for this race. Thanks to the invaluable help of the friendly De Hoop members, the race went very smoothly.

The Heineken Roeivierkamp is known for its unique atmosphere. More than 2000 participants cover the river Amstel and the race attracts 10,000 spectators.

A word about the event from Angelique Hrycko, one of the three Marathon Runners hosting this event:

"I, along with two other G-ROW Boston marathon teammates, will be holding a fundraising event at the Harry Parker Boathouse (home of CRI, G-ROW.) Each marathon runner for G-Row must raise $3,250.  I felt a fundraising event would not only help me reach my goal, but would give me the opportunity to have an event that people could really look forward to, as well as give friends the opportunity to go somewhere different for an enjoyable night, all for a great cause."

You are invited to come help plan CRI's 2nd annual "Treasure on the Charles" Yard Sale, which will be held this year on Saturday, June 5th  at the boathouse.  It promises to be a very fun day but we will need your help to make it as successful as it was last year.

We have selected June 5th for the Open House as is National Learn to Row Day.
