$631,000 RAISED
for Community Rowing's
$750,000 CHALLENGE GRANT
----------------
THANKS TO RECORD BREAKING WEEK OF FUNDRAISING

Inspired by the larger gifts secured over the past two weeks, CRI's membership continues to respond to our appeal for 100% membership participation for our $750,000  Challenge Grant.

Last week CRI raised another $24,000  and is now positioned within striking distance of its $750,000 fundraising goal. Reaching this goal means CRI will be able to finish paying off all construction costs associated with the boathouse and establish an endowment fund for the building.

With only 3 weeks lefts to the fundraising deadline of March 31, 2010, we are asking all members who have yet to make a gift to consider doing so today.  Current donations show more than 32% of our members have donated, but if we are going to be successful we need everyone to contribute.

Remember every dollar you give will be matched 100%.
Every gift makes an impact.

HOW TO COACH THE COXSWAIN
------
Tonight @ 7:00 PM

Join us to learn from Laura Simon, former US coxswain candidate and US JR Team coxswain coach.  Laura will share with you her secrets on developing excellent coxswains and making your life a little easier on the water.  You'll leave with tips on coaching your coxswains, including: steering, teamwork, execution of practice, goal setting, execution of a race, and how to make clear, concise calls.  Bring a pen, your stories, and a desire to learn how to help your coxswain become better!

Laura Simon has accumulated experience at both the International, National and Division I levels of women's rowing.  In addition to her coaching duties, she is also a Coxswain Education Coordinator for The Foundation for Rowing Education and the US Junior Team's Coxswain Coach. Simon coached the U.S. Jr. Team High Performance Team the summer of 2009 prior to being named the US Junior Team's Coxswain Coach starting in 2010.

Simon is a published author in the sport of rowing, co-authoring The Coxswain's Encyclopedia. She also presents to her peers at the US Rowing Annual Convention and other smaller conferences on Coaching the Coxswain.
Laura's athletic background includes acting as Varsity Coxswain from 1992 to 1995 as part of the UC-Santa Barbara Women's Rowing Team. From 1995 to 1998 she was Varsity Coxswain for the UMass team and won both 2nd place Varsity 8+ NCAA titles during this time. From 1997 to 2002, she also acted as 2nd Coxswain for the US National Women's Rowing Team.

Laura graduated from UMass Amherst with her degree in English in 1998 and went on to earn a Master of Education in Teacher Preparation and Curriculum Studies from UMass in 2001. She achieved a Level 1 Special Education Credential from San Jose State University in 2004. She lives in Hadley with her dogs, Kio & Tsunami, who are boathouse regulars.

CRI Yard Sale

First Planning Meeting  for
CRI's 2nd Annual Yard Sale
Monday, March 15, 2010
6:30pm in the Classroom/2nd Floor

You are invited to come help plan CRI's 2nd annual "Treasure on the Charles" Yard Sale, which will be held this year on Saturday, June 5th  at the boathouse.  It promises to be a very fun day but we will need your help to make it as successful as it was last year.

In addition to the yard sale, CRI will host an Open House inviting our neighbors from Brighton, Allston, Watertown, Newton, and Cambridge  to come visit, tour the boathouse and enjoy a free  barge ride,
We have selected June 5th for the Open House as is National Learn to Row Day.

If you would like to help plan the yard sale please RSVP to
