CRI On-the-Water Adaptive Program Winds Down and Culminates with the HOCR

CRI would like to recognize and honor the volunteer efforts of KariAnne Kulig and Cristina Viera. Not only are the two of them invaluable as coaches but they also manage and coordinate all of the volunteers, athletes, school and assisted home groups, and liaison with CRI and the board. They handle all the phone calls and emails inquiring about our program. CRI often publishes volunteer opportunities for members that account for an hour here and there. KariAnne and Cristina easily donate at least ten hours of their time each and every week. The program would not happen without their hard work. Thank you!

Fall Novice Girls
Novice Girls Race Report
By Coach Bode

On a chilly New England fall afternoon with gale force winds, tumultuous waters, and fast moving clouds, our girls took to the water with excitement, anticipation, (and maybe a little fear for their lives) for the team's second-ever Head Race.  The past week we'd had only two substantial on-the-water practice days, as a result of Wednesday's dangerous winds and some unplanned-for events (as we always have at CRI).  But we were feeling good about the two practice days because of some hard work, a revealing 1.5 mile run and truck push, and a bit of luck.   Each crew, two of which were almost completely re-organized, clearly improved since our race last race in Lowell, MA.  They rowed quick, long, composed, and faced "survival of the fittest" racing conditions.  Most importantly, they achieved our stated goals-better focus, more consistent pacing, improved times.  They also kept pace with our competitors' improvements.  Boat A drove that point home by snatching 3rd place, just a whisker (3 secs.) off the first-place finisher (see "Race Data/Results").  Boats B & C also improved times, and beat two crews that bested our efforts last weekend.  Boat C, without the aid of its Coxbox (due to a boathouse electrical outlet issue) rowed with noteworthy composure.  In all, the race was a solid performance from a very young team.  Looking forward we have a great deal of work ahead, but we have a bit of time off (Mon & Wed) for reflection and to reload our efforts in preparation for a highly contested and very competitive weekend at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga, NY.
