in the Tubbies Race!
On May 30, CRI's held its first Tubbies and Teams Regatta. We had approximately 16 participants, including 2 intrepid young scullers from the G-Row program. The weather was superb and the water was calm! The course was just shy of 1000 meters and fairly straight with the finish near the public boat ramp. All 1x scullers had to row in "tubbies" regardless of their level of expertise. We had several heats of 1x's for women and men.
For the 2x' s and 4x's, interested racers were encouraged to sign up together as teams, or they were assigned to boats by CB with an attempt to make the boats competitive within a heat. Due to last minute changes, personal time constraints as well as the desire of "a few good men" (and women) to row again and again, some of the seats in the team boats were "hot seated" which provided those scullers with a good work out! Although, we never quite finalized the times, we did ascertain overall winners, and a brief award ceremony was held.
All participants were asked, and generously donated delectable's for the event. Despite having the garage sale and open house on the same day, we were able to find a more than adequate number of volunteers to help make this event a success, further testimony to the wonderful community we have at CRI. Next year, we expect even more participants as the sculling program continues to grow! |
