6 Surefire Ways to See the Sunrise
Too many times we get to the boathouse at o'dark-thirty-but we don't get on the water till after the sun's up. Or, what about on the way down to the dock, you hear, "Weigh-nuf!" "Down to waist." Until the other boats leave the dock we wait, and wait, and wait. (Hmm, where's my coffee? I would've had time for coffee.) Here's how to help assure that rushing out to CRI is worth it. As soon as you arrive, team up to:
1. Check the boat ► Is the skeg intact? ► Bow ball in place?
2. Check the coxbox ► Is there sound? ► Lights work?
3. Get the oars out ► Take the right ones, e.g., double yellow, green/blue... ► Equal number of port oars (red) and starboard (green) ► Choose a dock where there aren't multiple stacks of oars. ► Place oars on the straightaway, never on the angle where we make the turn bringing a boat down. By now everyone's arrived, the coach has the line-up and you're off! Then, after your row and the boat's in, team up to:
4. Bring the oars in ► Carry two or more at a time...never one at a time. ► Carry with the paddle in front of you (...so you don't whack something/someone behind you)
5. Plug the coxbox in in its locker. ► Be sure the red light is on or it won't recharge.
6. If anything went wrong on the water, LOG IT. ► YOU (yes you), need to do it. Don't assume someone else will. It's easy, plus we do it anyway. This way, we'll be out on the water longer ...and get a chance to see the incredible sunrise.
