The Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation Awards G-ROW Boston $40,000 Grant
G-ROW Boston has received a $40,000 grant from the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation to fund the program's part-time Academic Coordinator position for the next two years. This is the second time G-ROW has received such a grant from the Shapiro Family Foundation. This past weekend Alice Taggart, the G-ROW Academic Coordinator, took six G-ROW girls to western Massachusetts to tour Mount Holyoke, Smith College and UMass Amherst. While visiting the colleges the girls met with coaches and rowers from the three colleges and reconnected with G-ROW alumni. College tours are just one way the academic coordinator position can provide the G-ROW girls a gateway to future academic success. At the same time, Alice coordinates individual after school tutoring for the girls, enabling them to reach new heights of academic achievement. CRI is very grateful to the Shapiro Family Foundation for continuing their significant support for the program. For more information about the Shapiro Family Foundation please visit the The Shapiro Family Website. |

Rower's Edge partners with G-Row Boston!
Beginning this Fall, Rowers Edge is pleased to announce a collaboration with G-Row Boston to provide guidance and support for girls wishing to continue rowing in college. G-Row, a program of Community Rowing, Inc., uses rowing as a tool to teach girls of all cultures and backgrounds the importance of teamwork, exercise, self discipline and time management. The skills that the girls learn on the water translate into stronger academic performances and ultimately allow them to create a positive future for themselves.
Rowers Edge is working with the G-Row girls to create a personalized plan to identify and communicate with college coaches, manage the recruiting process, consider scholarship opportunities if available and ultimately find the best college and rowing program for them. Many of these girls will be the first in their families to go to college and they may be unaware of the opportunities available to them through rowing.
Gail Silberstein and Maura Glandorf, partners in Rowers Edge, are pleased to be able to donate their time and share their unique expertise in this area with these girls.
