Congratulations to Anne and Pat! Last Saturday, CRI's Harry Parker Boathouse was the site for the wedding of Anne Eisenmenger of the Comp. Women's Team and Patrick Lester of the Comp. Men's Team, pictured above with their families.
After months of planning and one happy and chaotic weekend, Anne proclaimed: "The boathouse was the perfect place to be married, with CRI being such a big part of our lives separately and together. The food was potluck, largely contributed from our very talented teammates, the cake by GS1 rower/caterer Nonna Gale. And where else could we have walked under an arch of oars at the completion of our vows and dodged a pair coming off the water on our way to photos on the dock!?"

The Adaptive Rowing Pilot Program Continues to Make Progress Thanks to Many Volunteers
Photographed above are youth participants from the Mass Down Syndrome Congress Advocates in Motion (AIM) engaged in a Learn to Row session, held this past weekend with at CRI. Jamie Hintlian, Chair of CRI's Adaptive Rowing Committee, stated he was very pleased with the event. The event went as planned, the weather cooperated, and most importantly the rowers seemed to have a great time. There were 6 rowers in all, along with a FANTASTIC group of volunteers. A Huge thanks to Gary Piantedosi and Tom Darling for stroking the barge and to Jamie Hintlian and Calder Reardon's for coaching while on the barge. The parents of the youth participants were particularly pleased and are looking forward to future rowing sessions. CRI is working to make such a program a standard offering, as everyone agreed it was worthwhile and a lot of fun. |
WeCanRow!
If you've been around CRI on a Tuesday evening, perhaps you've noticed the women rowers in the fluorescent jackets. We are members of WeCanRow-Boston, a wellness and recovery program for women who are breast cancer survivors. The program, which is based at CRI was founded by Holly Metcalf in 2002, and has been a member run, registered non-profit organization since 2006.
The program is free to new members for the first six months following treatment and includes a sliding fee scale for all members as needed. Our program is funded through member fees and charitable donations. Currently, we have about 25 women from the Greater Boston area who have been rowing at CRI every Tuesday evening. Our membership includes novices as well as experienced racers, all of whom can attest to the powerful experience of rowing with other survivors. Rowing helps us find our own power, which adds immensely to recovery, as well strengthening ourselves for living with cancer.
Our wonderful head coach, Molly Jordan, works us hard as rower-athletes. She also designs programming that considers our health needs, such as the residual effects of chemotherapy and surgeries, as well as issues specific to each person's recovery. In addition, we are fortunate to have the volunteer services of our physical therapist, Lisa Cloutier. WeCanRow-Boston members are all members of CRI and appreciate being part of the CRI community.
