Flipping Out...
Above, Elliot Steinberg of CRI practices falling out of a single at Magainze Beach Pool during the Riverside sponsored Flip Clinic this past Saturday morning.
By Jacquie McCarthy, CRI Sculler
On Saturday morning, August 16th more than a dozen CRI scullers took advantage of the "Flip Clinic" sponsored by our neighbor, Riverside Boat Club. (Thanks to the DCR's Richard Scott, participants were able to practice in the Magazine Beach pool.) RBC coach Karen Chenausky walked everyone through the "best practices" of getting back into your shell once you've flipped. ProAmbulance of Cambridge then presented facts relating to the risks of cold water exposure and hypothermia. Our presenters noted that with experience comes complacency, so even seasoned rowers (and yes, we're talking to you!) should reacquaint themselves with this important information. A description of how to get back in to your shell can be found on the CRI captain's test (see question #17). Click here to watch a good video of someone applying this technique. |
FREE to a Good Home!
You can own a piece of CRI history... In late August/early September, one of the 9 boat storage racks currently holding the club singles could be yours. These racks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please contact Ryan ASAP if you are interested (ryan@communityrowing.org). Note: you will need a pickup truck (and at least one strong friend) to bring your rack home. | |
The Online Auction starts Friday, September 5, 2008. While the list is growing, we still need more items. Please click here to donate a tax deductible item to CRI's online auction.
Community Rowing will be auctioning off a number of fun and unique items to raise money for our organization - and the more items we have the more money we can raise, so we're asking for your help.
Here are a few examples of donations we are looking for, however, we are open to any other suggestions you may have.
● Professional services, such as "a writing class" or "private rowing lesson," or "watercolor lesson", etc. ● Tickets to sporting Events, such as "Sox tickets" or tickets to local HS teams ● Vacation Homes ● Certificates for dining out, music lessons, art lessons, yoga class, private rowing lesson., etc. ● Frequent Flyer Miles ● CRI logo items, such as the red caps that the parents wear at all the races. ● Babysitting services ● Jewelry ● Electronics ● Art ● Wine ● Unique Experiences such as home cooked meal, or hosting a team BBQ ● Professional Framed Photographs of Rowers, rowing, boats, etc. Show your support by clicking on the "Donate Items" button to the left to contribute to our catalog.
Whether you have 1 item or 100 to contribute, your participation is an invaluable part of our fundraising efforts. By donating an item or service directly online, you'll be helping to raise money for our organization, and you'll receive a mention on our site that can link back to your own web page.
All Proceeds from the 2008 Wine Tasting and Auction Event will go directly towards G-Row Boston and CRI's Operating Fund.
