ERC new logo eRecyclingCorps Receives $35M Investment from Kleiner Perkins

SJF portfolio company eRecyclingCorps (ERC) has closed a $35 million financing led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.  ERC implements large scale buyback programs of used wireless devices for carriers and major retailers through a point-of-sale trade-in platform.  With customers including Sprint and Verizon, ERC has grown to completing more than 2.5 million wireless device trades per year worldwide. "ERC is the first in their industry to provide a reliable supply of high quality, fully refurbished wireless devices in large volumes to international carriers, especially in the developing world," said SJF Managing Director David Griest.

SJF's Cleantech Strategy in the Press 

Dow Jones recently discussed SJF Ventures' differentiated cleantech strategy, which focuses on capital efficient companies that operate in undercapitalized segments of the cleantech market. The next CleanLinks New York event will be on Wednesday, January 25 from 5:30 to 8:00pm. It will be hosted by SNR Denton at the firm's office on 1221 Avenue of the Americas (49th Street).  The event will feature the topic "Cleantech Capital: Where are Dollars Being Invested?"  A panel of investors will discuss cleantech investing strategies and offer advice to entrepreneurs seeking to raise capital. Speakers include Sujit Banerjee, Managing Director, Element Partners; Andrew Garman, Managing Partner, NewVenture Partners; Matthew Nordan, Vice President, Venrock; Dylan Steeg, Director, Intel Capital.  Jigar Shah, Angel Investor and CEO of Carbon War Room, has also been invited but is not yet confirmed.  You will need to register in advance and please note that space is limited.

SJF Team Updates 

Cody Nystrom has been promoted to the position of Principal at SJF Ventures. Cody joined SJF in 2007 and has played an instrumental role in advancing the organization's performance. Cody co-led SJF's investment in CleanScapes, which was sold to San Francisco-based Recology in November.   Cody serves as a board observer for Community Energy, Inc., a Philadelphia-based utility-scale solar developer and renewable energy credit marketer. She helped to launch the CleanLinks network in Raleigh-Durham, a cleantech business networking group. Cody has also served on a number of selection and advisory committees for industry organizations, including Investors' Circle.

Upcoming Investors' Circle Venture Fairs
Online Venture Fair, January 19
Investors' Circle is kicking off its "12 in 2012" initiative, which will feature 12 venture fairs this year. The first virtual venture fair of 2012 will be on January 19th and will include presentations from three Greenstart graduates. GreenStart is a clean-tech startup accelerator focused on the global energy crisis with a goal of helping more than 500 cleantech startups launch more successfully over the next decade.

Spring 2012 Venture Conference, April 22-24, San Francisco

Save the Date for the Investors' Circle Spring Venture Fair at Hotel Monaco in San Francisco.
