SJF Represented at White House Energy Briefing
SJF's David Kirkpatrick and Jeff Wolfe from SJF portfolio company groSolar attended the White House Office of Public Engagement's Regional Energy Leadership Briefing to discuss energy and climate legislation. The briefing included speakers from the Council on Environmental Quality, White House Office of Energy and Climate Change, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke, Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the Department of Energy Cathy Zoi, and Special Advisor for Green Jobs Van Jones.
The 80 attendees included labor leaders, religious leaders focused on environmental stewardship, state legislators, veterans groups, and clean energy companies. One of the messages SJF and groSolar conveyed was that much of the federal stimulus and energy financing is currently focused on 'upstream' technology and manufacturing firms. More needs to be done, they said, to open up the downstream small business commercial and project finance markets that will more rapidly drive demand, job creation and carbon reduction.
