SJF Ventures led a Series B equity financing for ServiceChannel.com, Inc. ServiceChannel provides online tools that empower contractors to collaborate more effectively with facilities managers. Leading retailers such as Apple, Gap, Best Buy, Coach and Bare Escentuals engage ServiceChannel's Web-based solutions to locate contractors, place maintenance requests, track projects and process payments. ServiceChannel helps to source over $300 million in maintenance work annually in 40,000 store locations. More than 10,000 service contractors have been trained on ServiceChannel's systems.

Making Energy Work, RTP Ignite Clean Energy (ICE), and Getting Ready for Equity™ Chattanooga
The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association is presenting Making Energy Work: Building a Sustainable Energy Economy in the Southeast in Raleigh, NC on February 3. SJF Ventures is a sponsor of the event, and David Kirkpatrick is chair of the NCSEA board for 2009. This day-long forum will explore the Southeast's emerging new energy economy and how sustainable energy resources can expand economies, create business opportunities, develop new workforces, and enhance energy security.
SJF Ventures sponsored the Ignite Clean Energy (ICE) Team Building Event on January 7, 2009 in Research Triangle Park, NC, along with the North Carolina Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED). SJF and CED will work together to provide additional events and services for the growing cleantech & renewable energy industry in North Carolia. REBN NY Continues to Grow
SJF Ventures, together with Cooley Godward Kronish, Credit Suisse, and Porter Novelli, is a founding member of the New York Chapter of the Renewable Energy Business Network (REBN). There were more than 400 registrants for the chapter's networking reception January 27 in Manhattan. At the October 2008 REBN meeting, organizers conducted a survey on the future prospects for alternative energy (read press release summarizing the results). SJF Personnel Updates
Cody Nystrom (pictured at right), based in SJF's Durham, NC office, has been promoted to SJF Ventures Senior Associate. She recently led the SJF investment in Cleanscapes. In addition, Jonathan Gibbs and Katherine Ryzhaya, both Duke Fuqua MBA students, have joined SJF as MBA Associate interns. At Duke, Ryzhaya is a Research Assistant for the Climate Change Policy Partnership and for Duke's Corporate Sustainability Initiative and previously served as Principal in Structured Transactions at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). Gibbs most recently served as Vice President, Technology Ventures for Points of Light & Hands On Network, Washington DC. At Fuqua, he is the Career Coordinator for the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club. |
