SJF Actively Investing Through Current Credit Crunch
SJF is actively seeking companies with several million dollars in sales and exciting new growth opportunities that they cannot pursue via debt financing due to the current capital markets crisis. Recent Events: groSolar's Speed of Solar Conference, REBN NYC Event, and DOE Chapel Hill
- SJF Ventures portfolio company groSolar held a successful conference on October 1-2 in Boston. Titled the Speed of Solar @ groSolar '08: Funding & Policy Pathways to Accelerate the Solar Marketplace, the event had about 200 attendees and featured Mindy Lubber, President of CERES, Ian Bowles, Massachussets Secretary of Environmental Affairs, and SJF's David Kirkpatrick. Fortuitously, Congress extended and expanded solar and wind and efficiency tax credits the day after the conference.
- SJF's Alan Kelley and Arrun Kapoor are co-chairs of the Renewable Energy Business Network (REBN) New York chapter. REBN's inaugural event September 25 was highly successful, with close to 300 entrepreneurs, venture funds, law firms, investment banks, PR and marketing firms, and other organizations attending. The next REBN event, organized by SJF Ventures, Credit Suisse, Cooley Godward, and Porter Novelli, will take place on October 23rd from 5:30pm-8:30pm.
- SJF reached out to appropriate companies to assist the U.S. Department of Energy's Renewable Energy Commercialization team when they held a luncheon event August 22nd in Chapel Hill, NC.

SJF to hold Getting Ready for Equity™ Events for Entrepreneurs in New York and Chattanooga, TN
Following successful events in Orlando and Charleston, WV, SJF Advisory Services will hold two more Getting Ready for Equity™ seminars in 2008 to educate entrepreneurs about the process of working with equity investors. SJF will work with the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City and Bank of America to hold a GRE™ training in New York Oct. 28 to prepare entrepreneurs for the Inner City Capital Connections event Nov. 19. Salvage Direct Contributes to Hurricane Ike Cleanup Efforts
SJF portfolio company Salvage Direct, a leading salvage auction company, will be forefront in the clean-up efforts after Ike. "Our advance team was already en route to the disaster zone just two days after Ike hit," says Salvage Direct CEO Dan Hoversten, "Then we began the recovery process on thousands of boats, cars, and RV's."
