Vision statement

Jesus in Love supports lesbian, gay, bi trans and queer  (LGBTQ) spirituality, with an emphasis on art and literature. It promotes artistic and religious freedom and teaches love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is based on these beliefs: God loves all people, including sexual minorities. The creative process is sacred. The queer visions, especially the gay Jesus and LGBT saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.

Greetings!

A queer American saint for Independence Day is preacher Jemima Wilkinson.  In 1776, the same year that America issued the Declaration of Independence, she declared independence from gender. Read that story and more...

Jemima Wilkinson: Queer preacher reborn as "Publick Universal Friend" in 1776

Jemima Wilkinson

Jemima Wilkinson was a queer American preacher who woke from a near-death experience in 1776 believing she was neither male nor female. She changed her name to the "Publick Universal Friend," fought for gender equality and founded an important religious community.

The breakaway Quaker preacher spoke against slavery and gave medical care to both sides in the Revolutionary War.

Wilkinson is known as the first American-born woman to found a religious group, but is also called a "transgender evangelist." More info

Rainbow Christ Prayer honors LGBT spirit

Stained glass rainbow flag with cross by Andrew Craig Williams

Colors of the rainbow flag reveal the many faces of the queer Christ in the new Rainbow Christ Prayer by Kittredge Cherry and Patrick S. Cheng. It begins:

Jesus saves LGBT kids from holy terror

Life Savior by Mr. Fish
Carrying a gay child, Jesus walks on dangerous waters above the shark-like jaws of a clergy hat in a new cartoon.

Will they both be swallowed up by the holy terror of anti-LGBT religious oppression?! The artist drew it to illustrate "The War on Gays." More info

Kittredge Cherry at 1986 Lesbian and Gay Freedom Day Parade

I've been reflecting on LGBT Pride Month.  The smile on my face says it all. The photo was taken in 1986 right after I ran into the street to join my first Lesbian and Gay Freedom Day Parade. More info

Jesus in Love is praised as a "meaty blog" on a new list of "12 Queer Blogs to Watch" at Where the Girls Go. These queer "girls" brag about being irreverent, so it's quite a feat to present a spiritual message in a way that they call "fresh."

May the Rainbow Christ lead us beyond black-and-white thinking to experience the whole spectrum of life!
