Our Vision
Jesus in Love serves gay, lesbian, bi and trans (glbt) people who have spiritual interests, and our allies. We promote queer spirituality and the arts, with an emphasis on books and images. We believe that God loves all people, including sexual minorities. We believe that the creative process is sacred. We hope that the new visions, especially the gay Jesus and queer saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.
Greetings!

I'm thrilled to share a major new creative project with you today:

I wrote text to go with all 24 paintings in "The Passion of Christ: A Gay Vision" by Douglas Blanchard.  Details below, plus more to inspire you as Easter approaches.

Gay Passion of Christ series starts today

The Passion of Christ: A Gay Vision by Douglas Blanchard
A gay vision of Christ's Passion starts today at the Jesus in Love Blog. New posts will run daily for 3 weeks from April 8-29.

The images show Jesus as a contemporary gay man jeered by fundamentalists, tortured by Marine look-alikes and rising again to enjoy homoerotic moments with God and friends.

The series includes all 24 paintings in Douglas Blanchard's epic masterpiece "The Passion of Christ: A Gay Vision." Each daily post features art by Blanchard, a reflection and prayer by Kittredge Cherry, and a short Bible passage. Get more info or go to Part 1

Part 1: Jesus loved everybody...

Son of Man with Job and Isaiah by Douglas Blanchard
Part One of our series on "The Passion of Christ: A Gay Vision" begins with this reflection:

Jesus was one of us, a real human being. He loved everybody, even his enemies. And yet some say that LGBT people don't belong in the story of Jesus Christ. There's black Jesus, Asian Jesus -- and now gay Jesus to heal the hate and discrimination done in Christ's name. This is the story of a Jesus who emphasized his humanity by calling himself the Human One... Jesus was a child of God who embodied love so completely that he transcended death. But while it was all happening, people didn't understand. Society rejected him.  More

Crucified Christa embodies female Christ

Christa by Edwina Sandys

Christa, the female Christ, is the theme of an insightful address by Nicola Slee, a feminist theologian and poet. She writes:

Christa, our sister, have mercy
Christa, God's beloved, show us your face
where we have not wanted to see it
where we resist your presence among us

Queer martyrs rise from the ashes

Burning of Sodomites
Ash Wednesday may hold special meaning for LGBT people and our allies as we take the occasion to remember the sins of the church against queer people.

Christians traditionally put ashes on their foreheads as a sign of repentance on Ash Wednesday, but the ashes can also be a sobering reminder of the many people who were burned at the stake by the church for homosexuality. More info
