Our Vision
Jesus in Love serves gay, lesbian, bi and trans (glbt) people who have spiritual interests, and our allies. We promote queer spirituality and the arts, with an emphasis on books and images. We believe that God loves all people, including sexual minorities. We believe that the creative process is sacred. We hope that the new visions, especially the gay Jesus, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.
Greetings!
Protests followed the U.S. election when voters banned same-sex marriage.  We need to face hate with loving sacred images -- art that honors and includes instead of excluding.  Draw inspiration from our AltXmasArt series and this newsletter...
Is this the new Stonewall Rebellion?
Love not H8 protest
JesusInLove.org joined more than 100,000 protestors for GLBTQ rights who took to the streets nationwide in November after voters banned same-sex marriage.

Hundreds of people viewed our videos and photos of the Stop the H8 protest.

Our analysis of the new angry tone became one of the year's most popular posts.

See 12 days of AltXmasArt Dec. 14-25

Joseph and the Christ Child by John Giuliani
AltXmasArt, a groundbreaking exhibit of alternative Christmas art, will be posted online in 12 daily installments Dec. 14-25 at the Jesus in Love Blog.

Visit the blog daily starting Sunday, Dec. 14, for inspiration in the 12 days leading up to Christmas.

Nine artists mix Christmas imagery with a progressive vision of GLBT rights, racial and gender justice, and a world without war, poverty or environmental destruction.

The series offers a superb fusion of high-quality art and socio-political commentary.  It includes major artists such as Keith Haring, Robert Lentz and Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin.

Art honors AIDS martyrs
El Martir by Armando Lopez
El Martir (The Martyr) by Armando Lopez expresses the agony of AIDS and its treatment.  The image and the story behind it were posted at the Jesus in Love Blog for World AIDS Day Dec. 1.

Lopez reinterprets St. Sebastian as an AIDS patient suffering under harrowing modern health-care procedures. Mexican-born Lopez uses both native Tarascan and Catholic imagery in his paintings.  More info
GLBT protests have a long history
Passion of Matthew Shepard by William Hart McNichols
Recent rallies for same-sex marriage display a rage that hasn't been seen in the GLBT community for 10 years, not since the murder of Matthew Shepard in a gay bashing in 1998. More info

Protest for GLBT rights has a long, proud history.  Jesus in Love documented some of it with historic photos from past protests and queer events, posted in honor of the 40th anniversary of Metropolitan Community Churches. More info

2 new videos show Bible in GLBT style
  Heaven by Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin

Two new favorite videos at Jesus in Love revitalize the Bible with a GLBT twist.

Jesus appears with today's GLBT people in the new video of "Ecce Homo" by Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin.  It's a slide show with Bible quotes in English -- the same way that it was shown at Sweden's National Cathedral.  It made the Pope so mad that he canceled his visit.  See video

"Love Poem (No on 8)" shows various people reading the great Biblical love poem from I Corinthians 13.  The video adds a lovely visual surprise ending to support same-sex marriage.  See video

GLBT religion and spirituality
I hope that you will visit AltXmasArt daily at the Jesus in Love Blog for progressive-style inspiration in the 12 days leading up to Christmas.  It starts Sunday, Dec. 14.

Many people feel left out of the traditional Christmas scenes, but AltXmasArt breaks the stereotypes and shows Christ for ALL of us -- gay and straight, male and female, black and white, rich and poor.  See you there!

JesusInLove.org is celebrated its third anniversary in November.  I founded it because Christian rhetoric was being misused to justify hate and discrimination against LGBT people.  The ongoing bigotry proves that JesusInLove.org is still needed.  Check out our newly updated Media Room for 3 years of news releases on queer Christian art and activism.

We will keep tracking censorship and promoting a positive vision in the new year and beyond.

Have a joyous holiday season!
