Gay Jesus art sparks violence
"Sermon on the Mount" by Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin

Art that shows Jesus as gay has sparked violence--including a recent melee in Sweden.

Young people tried to set fire to a poster at the cultural center that was exhibiting photos of a queer Christ by Swedish photographer Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin

Staff intervened and as many as 30 people joined the fight, according to news reports.  The conflict occurred in the Swedish city of Jonkoping, known as a center of evangelical Christianity.

Ohlson Wallin is one of 11 artists whose images appear in my new book Art That Dares: Gay Jesus, Woman Christ, and More.

The violence in Sweden is the latest example of why the queer Christ is needed.

New vision statement for Jesus in Love

"Jesus in Love serves gay, lesbian, bi and trans (glbt) people who have spiritual interests, and our allies.  We promote queer spirituality and the arts, with an emphasis on books and images.  We believe that God loves all people, including sexual minorities.  We believe that the creative process is sacred.  We hope that the new visions, especially the gay Jesus, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world."

What do you think of our new vision statement-in-progress?  Please contact us with your comments.

This new vision statement grew out of input from our supporters.  We will continue to revise it based on your responses.

May you experience the full joy of the holiday season!  This newsletter is my Christmas gift to you.  I see it as a way to foster two-way communication, so please contact me with your ideas and suggestions.

Thank you for your support in 2007.  I'm excited about taking Jesus in Love to the next level with this newsletter, and I look forward to keeping in touch with you in the new year.

Holiday blessings,

Kittredge Cherry
