Constructing Slavery:
Beginning Investigations into the Housing of Slaves in New York State, 1620-1827
Presented by Walter Wheeler, Senior Architectural Historian at Hartgen Archeological Associates

This presentation will examine how slavery impacted the design and construction of early New York homes and discuss the spaces typically inhabited by slaves -- basement kitchens such as those found in the Jean Hasbrouck, Bever-Elting and Abraham Hasbrouck Houses, the kitchen wing, and the "summer" kitchen, which once existed behind the LeFevre House.  $7 per person.  $5 for Friends of Huguenot Street.

Saturday @ 7pm in the DuBois Fort Visitor Center
81 Huguenot Street, New Paltz, (845) 255-1889

As the Season Turns Online Exhibit And our New Year's Gift to You: A New Online Exhibit

Curatorial Assistant Ashley Hurlburt was busy over the holidays creating our newest online exhibit, As the Seasons Turn: The Greeting Card Collection of Historic Huguenot Street.  Hurlburt has created an interesting exhibit that highlights the extraordinary greeting card collection at HHS.  Here you find the best of the best -- cards that date to the latter half of the 19th century and that feature the work of fellow Huguenot descendant Louis Prang and others.  Click on the image to visit this new exhibit or any of other online exhibit -- our way of bringing a bit of the Street to you!
HHS Changing Security Procedures; Seeks Caretaker

With an eye toward continuous improvement, we are changing the way we handle security and off-hours maintenance for our six-acre site.  Instead of asking organizational staff who live on-site to share in the responsibility, Historic Huguenot Street is looking for a dedicated on-site caretaker.  This individuals will live in on-site housing provided by HHS and will be responsible for after-hours and weekend security and maintenance.  If you are interested or would like to know more, please contact Executive Director Eric Roth at (845) 255-1660 or eric@huguenotstreet.org.
Also tomorrow:
