Autism and Vaccines Study Retracted

Authored by Eric English, RAC

A significant contributing factor to the debate over the safety of childhood vaccines can be traced back to a recently retracted paper published by a group led by Dr. Andrew Wakefield in the British medical journal The Lancet in February 1998. The study involved twelve children with autistic spectrum disorder, and attempted to establish a link between environmental factors and a possible novel gastrointestinal syndrome, autistic enterocolitis. Parents of eight of the twelve children in the study indicated that their child's autistic behavioral symptoms began shortly after MMR vaccination.

News from the Blogs
As a new feature, we will periodically publish links to blogs that we think our clients might find interesting.  This month we are featuring Jeff Atwood.

Jeff  has been developing software since the days of the Texas Instruments TI-99/4a, and blogs semi-regularly at codinghorror.com about programming and human factors. He is also a co-developer, with Joel Spolsky, of the developer's resource website stackoverflow.com. In this post, Jeff describes a situation that we as testers often find ourselves in when working on projects---knowing when to stop. In addition to a good explanation about when and why it's important to stop before you finish, it's nice to know that the problem is not unique to testing.
