Dear Alumni,
It's hard to believe that it's already time to start thinking about homecoming and reunions. Class years ending in a "3" or an "8" are eligible for a reunion this year. So many things have been changing here on the hill. We'd love to have you come back to see the improvements and catch up with your former classmates and friends.
Help bring your class back together for a fun reception, bison pride and some reminiscing this fall.
If you want to volunteer to help organize a reunion for your class, contact me at 866-622-4766 or alumnioffice@nichols.edu. We had five successful reunions last year so let's keep the momentum going! I'm happy to help class volunteers - and the best part is that we will handle all of your mailings from start to finish.
Save the date: Homecoming 2008 - October 3rd & 4th.
View pictures of the 2007 reunions here.

Nichols Secure Online Giving Now Available
Donors to Nichols College now have a secure way of supporting the College online. Through the Nichols College website, alumni, parents and friends can now make gifts safely and conveniently.
Joe Cofield, Vice President for Advancement, says that this is a win-win for Nichols and its supporters. "With online giving available, we make it easier for the donor while saving the College money." Every gift made online will save on postage, while the donor can make a gift with a few simple clicks. "Our goal is to serve our loyal supporters, and this is certainly something they've been requesting for some time."
The alumni department has seen an increase in alumni who provide the College with email addresses. There has also been a dramatic rise in those requesting the Nichols and Sense bi-monthly email newsletter. Kristy Cullivan, Director of Alumni Relations, plans to increase contact via the internet. "Recent surveys say that our alumni are using both the Nichols College Magazine and Nichols College website to retrieve information about the College. Online giving is just another step toward serving all of our constituents, including our supportive alumni".
To view the online giving site and to make a gift, simply go to www.nichols.edu/giveonline

2008 Alumni Directory
Almost 800 alumni purchased the new 2008 Alumni Directory. This is a sign that alumni are willing and motivated to connect with each other. It's a great way to find new contacts or old friends. There are still some directories available. Contact the alumni office at (508) 213-2211 if you would like to purchase one for yourself.
All proceeds go to the publishing company that we contracted with to perform the research and printing of the directory for our alumni.

Alumni Board of Directors Update |

We are rockin' and rollin' at the Alumni Board meetings as of late. One new initiative is a reunion for lacrosse alumni which involves a trip to Gillette Stadium (Home of the New England Patriots) for NCAA championship lacrosse viewing and reminiscing. This is a great opportunity to get together with other lax alumni from all eras of Nichols. The event is on the weekend of May 24th, more info. to follow.
One thing that Nichols has always been strong on is our Bison pride. Thus, the board is working on finalizing the first stage of our Bison Pride campaign which will give alumni the opportunity to get their hands on some work-appropriate Nichols attire as well as the items from the bookstore. This initiative will add much needed depth to the items available for purchase to our alumni.
Currently we are accepting nominations for the Nichols Awards that the board is responsible for giving: Outstanding Alumnus, Alumni Achievement, Honorary Alumni, and Alumni Service. Contact the Alumni Relations Office with your nominations and a bio on the individual with a short write up explaining your nomination.
We would like to welcome home two Nichols heroes from their tours of duty, Captain Steve Manger US Army, Ft. Bragg NC, and former Alumni Board VP Tom Devine Massachusetts National Guard.
Finally, we would like to send our wishes to the family members of Rita Gatzke, who many of you remember from the Snack Bar and Dinning Hall, and Kenny Gray from Buildings and Grounds; both have passed since the beginning of the year and will be missed by the Nichols alumni community.
Please remember to update your contact information with the college so your classmates and friends will be able to find you.

From the Admissions Office
Thus far, the Admissions Office has exceeded its best year in volume of inquiries, applications, admits and deposits. As of February 9th, Admissions had received 1,822 applications, made 862 offers and received 92 deposits for fall 2008. This represents a 28% increase in applications and a 35% increase in deposits compared to this time last year. The office has more than doubled its volume of applications since 2006 for the same time frame. So far, we have admitted 47% of applicants compared to 62% last year.
In addition to quantity, quality has improved as well. The average accepted student has a GPA of 2.8 (B- average) and an average SAT score of 490, 472, and 480 in each of the three subject areas (math, verbal and writing). The gender ratio is currently 54% male and 46% female for deposited students, which is very encouraging. |
