Swine Flu Crisis Raising Concerns Globally 

 

It's estimated that hundreds of thousands of people around the world die of Influenza each year. But when a few hundred cases of a new strain of the Swine Flu were simultaneously reported in Mexico, Europe, Asia and the U.S., it quickly became a topic of major concern throughout the planet.

 

National and local governments in every nation are closely monitoring the crisis, and encouraging citizens to remain calm. Simple guidance on how to best avoid contamination is being made readily available. To help contain the virus, some countries are quarantining areas that have been badly affected, and in Egypt they've decided to slaughter all the pigs (estimated 300,000), even though there is no evidence to indicate this would help. In fact, the Mexican authorities have been unable to locate a single infected pig, even though Mexico seems to be the center of this global crisis.  

 

Scientists expect to have a vaccine ready by the Fall. However, when a similar scare occurred in the U.S. in the late 1970's, more people died from the vaccine than from the virus itself. Creating a working vaccine is not really an exact science, because viruses constantly mutate over a period of years. Therefore, scientists have to anticipate how the virus will evolve in subsequent years. Sometimes the viruses get weaker and other times they get stronger and more deadly.

 

What makes this strain of the Swine Flu more problematic is that it's a mixture of human, bird and pig viruses. This anomaly is unlikely to occur unless it were done so by design. This is especially more unlikely to be a random occurrence when you consider the simultaneous outbreak of the virus in multiple locations around the planet.

 

While the Federation does not expect this to become a worldwide catastrophe, it does appear to be a precursor for subsequent occurrences designed to gain tighter control of the world's population.
