Pastor Brad Estep (Winter Haven First) has accepted a call to Kansas City First Church. He and his wife, Dawn, have served on the Central Florida District for nearly 10 years, pastoring at St. Pete Victory and then Winter Haven. He has served on the District Advisory Board and Board of Ministerial Credentials. The Esteps will be greatly missed on our district. Dr. Jack Stone, retired General Secretary, is serving as interim and assisting the church board in calling a new pastor.
Rev. Bob Yates (Orlando United) has been elected to the District Advisory Board to fill the vacancy left by Brad Estep.
Rev. Edna Murugan of Haines City graduated and received her of Philosophy in Education with a Specialization in Adult post-Secondary Education on August 23rd for Capella University in Minneapolis. Pastor Edna is wife to Sam, mother to her four children, Stacy (16), Stephanie (14), Spencer (10) and Sasha (7), and beloved bi-vocational Senior Pastor of the Haines City church. A member of her congregation writes "Since we are a very small church, the pastor needs to work. The job she has is the administrator of teachers (and goodness knows what else) at a college in Brandon Florida. With this being 60+ miles each way to work, it makes for very long days. With the added responsibilty of being our pastor and leader, we are very thankful as a church to have this outstanding woman." Congratulations Dr. Edna!
Clearwater First has called Rev. Pat Glenn as their pastor. Pat has served as associate pastor, first of Youth, then of Small Groups at Highland Park for the past 8 years. His first Sunday will be September 28th. Pat and his wife Barbie have two children -- Jake (8) and Erin (1 1/2).
Philosophy in Education with a Specialization in Adult post-Secondary Education
Rev. Alan Archer has accepted a call to Ruskin Community. Alan and his wife, TerryLynn come to us from the Maine district. Their first Sunday will be September 14th. The Ruskin congregation recently treated their community to a free pancake breakfast, as a kick-off to the Nazarene Centennial. They served hundreds of pancakes while their Prime Time Band entertained the diners.
Pastor Julio Brutus (Winter Haven Haitian) recently returned from a medical mission trip to his home country of Haiti. He and his team assisted1,500 people, providing medicines and food. He reports that conditions continue to deteriorate in this poor country, where many are facing starvation. Diseases that easily would be curable in our country were found in epidemic proportions there, he said. "When you see people starving, with no food, you realize you have very little to complain about."
That's Team-Work! Several Team Central churches traveled to Dominica this summer on Work and Witness trips, helping to construct cabins for the Ocean View Retreat Center. Participating churches included Melbourne First, Winter Haven First, Apopka Calvary, Highland Park and Vero Beach.
Please continue to pray for Rev. Elsie Mosgrove, retired Deacon, and wife of Rev. Ralph Mosgrove. She fell recently and broke her hip, resulting in hip replacement surgery (her second -- she was nearly recovered from a fracture of the other hip). Doctors have also discovered compression fractures in her spine. "We are trusting the Lord for new and added blessing in her healing, " says Ralph. "We are grateful for all your prayers and words of encouragement."
Our Space Coast churches experienced the worst of Tropical Storm Fay last month. Please be in prayer for their continued recovery. Some churches were unaffected, but Melbourne First, Melbourne Harbour City and Rockledge experienced heavy water damage. Please pray for dry weather to help with the clean-up. |
