Warren Kitchen goes to Japan!
|
|
Richard Von Husen went to Japan recently to visit Kikuichi's headquarters AND the the Seki Cutlery Festival Click on image to get to the SLIDE SHOW! SEE More photos! Seki has a 780 year history of sword and cutlery manufacturing. An
important industry of Seki City, sword and cutlery manufacture is also
a tourist attraction. Many people visit the Cutlery Festival which is
held to commemorate Motoshige, the first swordsmith in Seki, and to
honor his contribution to the industry, as well as to promote further
development of the city. Interesting elements of the festival include
demonstrations of traditional Japanese sword forging, a cutlery
discount market, an exhibition of antique swords and knives and a
memorial service for cutlery. Many other events await visitors.

-- We will provide: baked sugar and gingerbread cookie shapes
to decorate, decorating equipment, icing, and sprinkles.
-- You should bring an apron and something to carry your
cookies home in (the icing may not be quite dried so a flat box would be good.)
3 good reasons to take a cookie decorating workshop:
1) Bring home your evening's hard work to share your with
family and friends!
2) Learn how to decorate rolled sugar cookie shapes with the
ease of Martha Stewart! (The Morton Library's Cookie Swap is on Dec. 14, why
not prepare to make an impression with your 3 dozen! For more information visit
The Morton Library)
3) Help make Rhinebeck's Sinterklaas celebration a sweet
success and contribute some of your decorated cookies to edible art!
Part of this winter festival on Saturday, December 6, will
be a 6-foot tall Cookie Tree displayed at the Beekman Arms. Jessica Bard will
need at least 300 decorated cookies to complete the tree so any help is
appreciated! For more info visit www.sinterklaasrhinebeck.com
