Greetings!

"So where ya been? Have you stopped the newsletter?" RAM StandingMy answer over the past several months has been "No, no . . . we've just been busy." Rather vague, I admit.

I'm flattered you missed us. But now I can explain . . .

Since last Spring, I have been slave to a brainchild and holding down two jobs. By day, Bob Mason the elder law attorney in North Carolina and Savannah. By day and by night (and all the darned weekends) . . . founder and creator of Elder Law University!

And WHAT, you may ask, is Elder Law University? Read below for details. But first a word on what got me started . . . .

Over the years with my clients I saw a pattern.  Then it got to be plain old predictable. Everyone was craving information. Many were confused and almost as many had been on the internet looking for answers . . . which lead many back to being confused and frustrated. I'm a teacher. I take real joy in putting people in charge of their situation.

The frustration for me was that I could only reach a limited number of people in any day or week or month.  There is a limit to what one lawyer, sitting in one conference room, can do just one family at a time.

Wednesday
Wednesday the Beagle

Then I had an idea one morning at 5:00 while walking Wednesday (the beagle) . . . use DVDs and other materials to educate and empower older people and their adult children to take charge of their problems.

And here we are . . . eight months, 60 hours of filming, 100's of hours writing workbooks, countless hours learning about the internet, and Google, and Facebook and trademarks, and about 5,000 hours of worrying (much like a parent) . . . Elder Law University. Please read more below.

Also check out the website HERE. And if you are a Facebook person, please LIKE us by going HERE.

Also, send this on to someone you believe would benefit from Elder Law University. Please.

We'll be back in a few weeks with the February edition of Elder Law Update with "news you can use."

And a final word . . . YES I am still practicing law and will continue to do so. So do not worry about that. Come see me in Asheboro or Savannah!

A Quick Tour of Elder Law University

Elder Law University empowers spouses, adult children and other family members faced with planning for beloved elders. The Elder Law University DVD/workbook series gives them information and tools to get organized and take charge. Knowledge is power!

Elder Law University DVDs are viewable on your laptop, PC, or other DVD player. You will have a sensible, step by step guide to making educated decisions in the best interest of your loved ones. The 9+ hour DVD set comes with a supplemental workbook in viewable and printable PDF format, which includes definitions, state specific information and planning pages. To take a peek at a few sample workbook pages, click HERE (102 - Powers of Attorney), or HERE (105 - Medicaid), or HERE (107 - Putting It Together: Strategies).

The classes covered include:

101     Wills - The foundation for any good plan, a last will and testament is essential . . . and easy to mess up.

102     Powers of Attorney - an often over-looked document that can make the difference between a great plan or a train wreck.

103     Trusts - Trusts could be the linchpin to a good strategy.  Learn about the types, the key rules, the main players and uses.

104     Tax Basics - In order to grasp the essentials of trust strategies and property transfers, you'll need to know some tax rules.  Sorry.

105     Medicaid - Here it is.  The topic most of our students want.  Try not to skip ahead to this.

106     Veterans Benefits - A little known (and often misunderstood) benefit that is often MIA, can be big artillery!

107     Putting It Together: Strategies - And don't skip to this one, either.  Seriously.  Go back and learn the earlier sessions or you won't get it.  This is your goal.  This lesson alone is worth the price.

108     Finding Help - Trying to find a good attorney who understands everything you have just learned and who can help you implement a plan can be tough.  We'll teach you some tricks.

At Elder Law University, we know the best reassurance is the knowledge that you are making educated, informed decisions in the best interest of your loved ones.
