LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings Everyone!

Hope everyone enjoyed the Yellow Tie event this year and was able to do some serious networking while having fun enjoying the food and drinks while meeting new people.

In August, our hosts will be STL-TV and we will be discussing film festivals. Chris Clark of Cinema St. Louis will be on hand to tell us what it's like to run a festival and what they are looking for in submissions.  We're also going to get helpful tips and advice from Maggie Eubanks of the Mid America Emmy's, writer/producer Bobbie Lautenschlager and Andrea Sporcic, who worked for Missouri Film Office.

It's sure to be a very informative meeting, so don't miss out.

Coming soon is a Movie Trivia night!  All you movie buffs, don't miss out, it's sure to be a fun evening for all. Here are the details:

BIG BASH A BIG SUCCESS

Last month, the MCA joined with several other local professional organizations in the Big Bash -- an annual business networking event in Forest Park, at the historic Cabanne House. Attendees braved 100-degree-plus heat-index temperatures to get acquainted, exchange business cards, eat, drink, and make merry.

The organizations participating included Yellow-Tie, Public Relations Society of America, American Marketing Association, and the National Association of Women Business Owners. The high temperatures kept the attendance down this year, but that just meant more beer, wine, and food for those that did attend.

There's talk about scheduling next year's meeting in early June to avoid to dog days of St. Louis's summer.

UPDATE ON THE MO FILM INDUSTRY

by Mike Ketcher

Ray Hartmann, former publisher of the "Riverfront Times," recently wrote an article for "St. Louis Magazine" on the recent demise of the MO Film Office and MO film tax credit.  You can read it at http://www.stlmag.com/St-Louis-Magazine/August-2011/Gov-Jay-Nixon-Yells-Cut-to-Filmmaking-in-Missouri/#

While the MO Film Office has been cut, the MO Film Commission is still alive, according to Bill Lennon of Branson, who is the current chairman of the MO Film Commission.  The MFC is a state commission, made up of volunteers, some from the MO state legislature and some from the different communities around-the-state.  Mr. Lennon has produces and performs in Branson. He is the brother of the famous Lennon Sisters, who performed regularly on the Lawrence Welk Show, a musical variety show which ran on television for well over 40 years, including re-runs.

While the MO Film Commission's purpose is advisory, its members are enthusiastic supporters of the film industry, and there are plans afoot to try to reverse some the recent setbacks to the state film industry.
