LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings Everyone!
We would like to thank our guest speakers last month, and our hosts at Limelight Studios for a terrific meeting on Acting. We had some great comments and feedback on our MCA Facebook page, St. Louis MCA about the meeting, please be sure to go there and check for updates and information on future meetings and let us know what you think. Gayle, our VP of Programming is always posting articles and items of interest on our page, so check back often to see what's new!
Last month, we were all geared up for Legislative Day when a huge ice and snowstorm whacked the Midwest and ruined our plans, but rest assured, we are working to re-schedule and we will all have a chance let our voices be heard. Speaking of being heard, don't miss our next meeting on Sound. We will be discussing studio sound, on-location recording, post-production sound, as well as music for your project and how to get it.
Sound is so important to the tone of your piece, get some really amazing advice from some industry professionals who will let you know how to get great music and sound effects on your film.
I'll be on hand to tell you how I got a Hollywood soundtrack on my short film, Play Dead, at a bargain price and how you can do it, too.
This month, I received the news that Play Dead will be getting a Canadian premiere, it's showing at the Toronto Female Eye Festival in March, showcasing female directors from around the world.
I will be in Los Angeles just long enough to watch the Oscars and then I will be returning. I hope you will all be watching for Winter's Bone, which shows us a low budget film shot in our own Missouri can make the whole world pay attention. This little film is raking in the nominations and awards. Two years in a row, the Academy has nominated films shot in Missouri, very different films, but with unique and memorable characters and story. Keep your eye on Jennifer Lawrence, she is a talent!
I look forward to seeing and hearing all of you at our next meeting!

Wow! That is what I want to say about our February MCA meeting!! We had nearly 60 people in attendance at Limelight Studios in St. Charles (my apologies to those who had to stand...) for our meeting on Acting.
Our presenters spoke about the role of the Casting Director, Talent Agencies, being an actor, being Voice Talent, and the importance of getting the right kind of headshot (and when to get the headshot). Thank you to John Contini, Joni Tackette, Mandi Morris, Harlan Rector and Lance Tiflord for sharing so much great information with our group. Thank you also to all of the people who attended our meeting for the first time...welcome to our group! |
