Contrary to the mass marketing that fills our mailboxes, original windows can be refreshed and repaired to meet today's energy savings goals. At the same time, preserving original windows also preserves historic character, and of course the fact that you are re-using material is inherently sustainable. This workshop covers the basics of identifying problems and repairing the wood windows in our older homes.

Open House

James and Emma Arbrey House

NW Portland

Wednesday, May 23

6 - 8 pm

Members: $5.00  General Public $10.00

Enjoy seeing the James and Emma Arbrey House, built in 1904 in anticipation of the opening of the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition. When constructed, the then wide-open view allowed visitors to see the grounds of the fair, as well as Cascade peaks. We can't bring back the bright lights of the Exposition, but members Brad and Sherri Graves are sharing some of their extensive collection of fair memorabilia with AHC visitors to see amidst the beautiful original woodwork and craftsmanship of this Tudor Revival home. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of members Carrie Ure and Brian Lockyear who are generously hosting this wonderful opportunity.

To sign up, call 503-231-7264, or send a check to 701 SE Grand Ave., Portland, 97214. Online registration will be available at in a couple of days.

Remember, members at the Individual level and above have the benefit of bringing a friend or colleague at the member price!
