Special opportunity to hear Dr. Steven Semes
"Will There be a There, there?"
One of the most challenging issues in new and infill development is how it blends with its more historic neighboring buildings. New buildings don't have to be ultra-modern and overwhelm their surroundings, especially in historic districts. This is a national as well as a local issue and no one has written about it with more authority and strategies to pursue than Dr. Steven Semes, architect, critic, and author. Semes is coming to Portland for a one-time special event on SUNDAY, March 11, 2012, at 3:00 PM at the U of O/White Stag Building. Don't miss "Will There be a There, there?" as Semes talks about the future of our city!Presented by the Historic Preservation League of Oregon, and generously sponsored by Venerable, the Architectural Heritage Center's Cathy Galbraith will be a panelist at this event. NOTE: Tickets for AHC members are $15 ($20 General Public) and are available online.

Our Members in the News
The University of Oregon's Historic Preservation Program has received a $2.8 million gift from Portland developer Art DeMuro
that will enable the
32-year-old program to advance preservation studies in a big way.
DeMuro, president of Venerable Group, Inc., has been a champion of the Historic Preservation Program for many years, giving generously of his time through guest lectures and mentoring students, serving on an advisory board and through many key charitable gifts.
Last issue we featured our business members Art First Colors for Architecture and Joel Hamberg Painting who teamed up to volunteer their services and help restore the Hollywood Theatre. Our links to their web pages did not work. Please take time this week to check out their pages with our corrected links!
For information on the process to share your news with our members, please follow the instructions found here.
