Education Programs and Exhibits
Education program revenue supports AHC efforts to preserve the historic character and livability of our built environment, and to promote sustainability through the re-use of vintage buildings.
Portland in Postcards Saturday, November 6, 2010 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Members: $13 General Public: $18
Beginning in the early 20th century, postcards rapidly developed into a hugely popular tourist souvenir item and postcards of the "City of Roses" were no exception. Nothing shows off Portland's rich architectural heritage like vintage postcards. They can offer glimpses into the past of familiar places and those long since forgotten. Their often colorful imagery also gives insight into the lives of previous generations of Portlanders and visitors to the city.

AHC Members in The NEWS!
Breaking News!
Congratulations to Art DeMuro, Venerable Properties for a 2010 Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, for the adaptive re-use of the White Stag, Bickel Block and the Skidmore buildings. The buildings were restored to house the University of Oregon's Portland campus. The historic buildings are in the heart of Skidmore/Old Town, Portland's National Historic Landmark District. The award is being presented to Art DeMuro this week, at the annual National Trust conference in Auction, Texas. The Bosco-Milligan Foundation was proud to receive an Honor Award in 2005, so we how gratifying national recognition can be!
If you are an active member or business member of the AHC, we want to hear about it when you win a preservation related award, have your work honored in an exhibit, have your restored home featured in a magazine. Share your news with us at marketing@visitahc.org. Please do not reply to this email to send us your good news.
In the body of your email, please provide the following information:

Business Member Spotlight
AHC Business Members provide products and services pertinent to historic preservation and period-authentic renovation, and they support the mission and goals of our organization. Please consult the Resource Directory on our website and patronize these businesses first when you need professional services for your home projects and when you are looking for great cultural places to visit. Spotlight: The Frank Lloyd Wright Gordon House
Do you marvel at mid-century modern movements? Have a passion for purposeful planning? Are you amazed by astonishing architecture? If you have not been to the Gordon House in Silverton, it is a must see destination for lovers of architecture and all preservationsists.
There is a story in every room: The Gordon House, the only building in Oregon designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, offers guided tours of the interior of the house. The tours are conducted by knowledgeable and entertaining docents who will cover the theories and practices of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, the story of how an Oregon farm family commissioned Mr. Wright to design their new home, the near destruction of the home in 2000 and the rescue, dismantling, moving and reconstruction of the house in historic Silverton next door to The Oregon Garden.
In support of the AHC's continuing efforts to educate and inform, the Gordon House is open daily for guided tours and event rentals.
The Gordon House Conservancy supports the mission of the Architectural Heritage Center in the search to preserve and salvage architectural history in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Without dedicated and committed historic preservation and restoration, the Gordon House would not be standing and open to the public today. We welcome the increase in enthusiasm that the Architectural Heritage Center generates and promotes.
