Summer Challenge Match
162 people + doubled donations = SUCCESS!
Many thanks to all the generous contributors who joined or made a donation during our Summer Challenge Match. Holly was tallying well into the last day of August 31, and was able to do a little happy dance around 3:30 in the afternoon when the spreadsheet shared the thrilling news that we had more than made the match by raising $20,852.
Deep gratitude to Rick Michaelson and Allen Denison who made the challenge.

_____________________________________________________________ Education Programs
Education program revenue supports AHC efforts to preserve the historic character and livability of our built environment, and to promote sustainability through the re-use of vintage buildings.
Elegant Arches, Soaring Spans: The Bridges of Conde B. McCullough - Encore Saturday, September 18, 2010 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Members: $13 General Public: $18
Pre-registration is REQUIRED
Civil engineer and builder Conde Balcom McCullough left an awe-inspiring legacy of bridge design in Oregon that is impressive on an international scale. McCullough's bridges, primarily built between the two World Wars, were innovative in their use of reinforced-concrete arch construction. Of the nearly 600 bridges designed by McCullough and his staff, those along the Oregon Coast are some of the most beautiful.

Business Member Spotlight
AHC Business Members provide products and services pertinent to historic preservation and period-authentic renovation, and they support the mission and goals of our organization. Please consult the Resource Directory on our website and patronize these businesses first when you need professional services for your home projects. Spotlight: The mission of Space Down Under is the preservation of Portland's older homes and the craftsmanship within them. Their goal is to help homeowners increase living space under the home while preserving the existing structure and heritage. Space Down Under prides themselves on doing this "invisibly" - providing structural restoration while maintaining the historic details of the period. They practice Old world craftsmanship utilizing 21st century technology. Many of their clients have older Portland homes built on concrete or brick foundations that are now crumbling and failing. Rather than tearing down a beautiful old home, they actively encourage people to save their heritage and protect their most important investment: to think of themselves as stewards of their homes rather than owners. We asked Jane at Space Down Under why being a member of the AHC is important to her and the rest of the team: "Our commitment to local community and preservation of our neighborhoods meant a perfect fit for us with the AHC's goals and aspirations for local businesses and home owners. We were fortunate to be asked recently to co-present for "Invisible Additions" - one of the many wonderful educational programs offered by the AHC."For more information visit: www.spacedownunder.com |

Did you know our founders?
We are making some changes to our database and want to keep better track of people who had a direct connection with either or both of our founders, Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan.
Perhaps you are a former student or bought stained glass from them? Maybe you met them at an estate sale? We'd appreciate knowing. Please send an email to hollyc@VisitAHC.org mentioning how you got to know them (and when, if you remember). Thank you!
