Mid-Year Challenge Match
Double Your Donation!

The AHC is fortunate to once again have the opportunity to offer a Mid-Year Challenge Match donation and membership incentive! New memberships, returning members, and donations made or pledged by the match deadline of August 31st will all count toward matching $20,000 pledged by board members.

Optimism, energy, and ideas abound but our need remains great. Although we have so far successfully avoided a staff furlough this year, no one has returned to full-time hours. Our nine dedicated staff members are operating on part-time hours that total just over five full-time equivalents.

A big thank you to the generous board members who created the match, and to the many generous donors who have already given! Please join or give - and your contribution can be doubled, too!

Education Programs

Education program revenue supports AHC efforts to preserve the historic character and livability of our built environment, and to promote sustainability through the re-use of vintage buildings.

This Saturday's program, National Heritage Areas: Engaging Communities in Protecting Our Past, has been canceled.  It will be rescheduled for a later date.  If you registered for this program, please call the AHC for a refund.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Heritage Home Tour
Did you miss the Heritage Home Tour.  Our intern, Zander Veith, wrote a great report on his experience on the tour.

"I had been working since day one of my internship to help promote the tour, but to finally get to see the end product was a whole new experience. The most unfortunate part of the whole thing was that I ran out of time and only got to see five out of the six homes on the tour, but those five were certainly amazing. I have put together a list of my favorite aspects at each of the heritage homes I visited- see if any of your favorite parts of the day match up with mine.
"

Business Member Spotlight

AHC Business Members provide products and services pertinent to historic preservation and period-authentic renovation, and they support the mission and goals of our organization.  Please consult the Resource Directory on our website and patronize these businesses first when you need professional services for your home projects.

Spotlight:             Arciform

ArciformArciform LLC is a design-build company specializing in the restoration and remodel of historic and vintage structures, ranging from Victorian through Mid-Century Modern.  They have a passion for remodeling homes while respecting their architectural integrity and they work in Oregon and SW Washington. In addition to their extensive remodeling work, they are proud to offer competitive hourly rates for skilled help through their Carpenter-on-Call service.

Arciform has been a member of the Architectural Heritage Center almost since it's founding in 1997. Over the years, they have actively participated as a business member through sponsorship of the organization and outreach and advocacy to members.

We asked Melissa Fryback about Archiform's commitment to the AHC and here is what she had to say:

"Speaking at programs, presenting examples of historically appropriate renovation and restoration on the Kitchen Revival tour, participating in the Old House Fair, serving on the board of directors, volunteering to help with the collection, and donating to the annual auction have all been very rewarding. Arciform LOVES engaging with the members of the Architectural Heritage Center and being inspired and educated through the wonderful exhibits and the talented resources that give so much of themselves to the cause of preserving our built heritage."

You can find out much more about Arciform on their website and they invite you to "like" them on Facebook.

Auction Donation Highlights

Seeking Wine Donations for 2010 Heritage Auction

AuctionDonationsSince introducing the "Wall of Wine" at the 2008 Heritage Auction, we have discovered we have a number of wine connoisseurs amongst us, and we are now gathering donated bottles for this year's "Wall of Wine."  White, red or bubbly -- we don't discriminate, but we promise purchasers a retail value of at least $20.

If you have a few spare bottles lying around, or a cellar that's bulging at the seams, we'd be happy to take those extras off your hands.

We are also seeking case donations to be served with dinner. If you, or someone you know, has a connection to a wine distributor, vineyard, etc. that would be willing to donate the wine for dinner, please contact Kori Koppen (hyperlink to my email). We'd be happy to give the business donor a sponsorship in exchange for the in-kind donation. And, of course, donations are tax deductible.

Auction tickets are on sale now for the 2010 "Riches of a City" Heritage Auction, this year's theme, Preserving Traditions. Please call the front desk to reserve your seat or table - 503-231-7264 or or purchase on-line.

Can't make it on October 16th but would love an opportunity to bid on some of these fabulous items, no problem, contact Kori Koppen at KoriK@VisitAHC.org to arrange for an absentee bidder.
Did you know our founders?

Ben & Jerry 1970sWe are making some changes to our database and want to keep better track of people who had a direct connection with either or both of our founders, Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan.

Perhaps you are a former student or bought stained glass from them? Maybe you met them at an estate sale? We'd appreciate knowing. Please send an email to hollyc@VisitAHC.org mentioning how you got to know them (and when, if you remember). Thank you!
