Business Member Spotlight
AHC Business Members provide products and services pertinent to historic preservation and period-authentic renovation, and they support the mission and goals of our organization. Please consult the Resource Directory on our website and patronize these businesses first when you need professional services for your home projects. Spotlight: McCoy Millwork offers a broad range of
historic architectural millwork, unparalleled in our area. They inventory
hundreds of mouldings, several lines of hardwood and softwood stair parts,
finish lumber, columns, mantels, and decorative items. McCoy has the products
to give your historic home the beauty and character you desire. They have an extensive showroom staffed
by accessible, friendly sales professionals, dedicated to helping their customers. McCoy is committed to providing
quality millwork, expert advice and exceptional service, with the goal of
realizing the dream of a beautiful home. They have been doing this since 1946. We
asked Gary Paquin why McCoy is a business member of the AHC and what the
AHC
means
to him and his team. "We are members of the AHC because our
collection of historic profiles reflects our enthusiasm for historic
architecture and its preservation.
The AHC is the perfect venue to get the word out to a like minded group
with the same enthusiasm. We love
being able to help people restore their old homes." www.mccoymillwork.com |
Meet our Interns
Kari Newhouse - Website Intern
Kari comes to us with an interesting and varied professional background. She recently completed the Website Development Program at PCC and is doing an internship to expand her real world experience in the field. Our IT Manager, Ken Hall is thrilled to have Kari on his team!
We asked Kari to share some thoughts with us about her internship and here is what she had to say:
"I was very excited to get the chance to work at AHC because of my love of History and Historic preservation. Both of my parents are deep into Historic Preservation. My mother has a degree in that field as well as being a Civil War expert."
"I love fixing and restoring things and have been doing that since I was a little girl. I also have always been interested in computers and anything technology."
"I am excited to be working with Drupal and to use my other web skills to keep the AHC site looking as amazing as possible so that visitors will keep coming back for more."
"It is important to remember the past, and all the hard work the people who lived here before us did to make this town so lovely."
Welcome Kari! If you see her around the AHC or at an event, introduce yourself.

Auction Donation Highlights
Own a Piece of Portland's Architectural & Science History
The Bosco-Milligan Foundation has received a unique donation, one of the blue triangular panels from the Washington Park OMSI planetarium.
In 1967, Harry C. Kendall made a large contribution to OMSI that allowed them to construct the start-of-the-art planetarium. The distinctive blue and green 32-foot geometric dome sat 160 people. Over the years the planetarium treated visitors with meteor showers, auroras, comets and stunning views of the earth. In the mid-1970's, multimedia shows were introduced which included shows examining the 1979 total solar eclipse, the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helen's and even laser light shows timed to music (for all of you classic rockers). The dome was deconstructed in the mid-90's when the museum moved to their current location at SE Water Avenue.
Learn more about the OMSI Planetarium history. Tickets to the 2010 Bosco-Milligan Foundation, "Riches of a City" Heritage Auction are on sale now, please call the front desk for details 503-231-7264.

Did you know our founders?
We are making some changes to our database and want to keep better track of people who had a direct connection with either or both of our founders, Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan. Perhaps you are a former student or bought stained glass from them? Maybe you met them at an estate sale? We'd appreciate knowing. Please send an email to hollyc@VisitAHC.org mentioning how you got to know them (and when, if you remember). Thank you!
