Meets Historic Preservation, several shifts available.
First Friday, June 4
-- Volunteers needed from 5:30-8:30
to help with our popular monthly gallery reception for our June artist.
Front Desk -- We need a front desk
volunteer to help out on a regular basis, 2 Fridays per month, from 1-4 p.m. Front desk volunteers greet our visitors, answer phones, provide information and
help out with a variety of office tasks. This is a great way to learn more
about the AHC and spend time in our lovely facility.
Heritage Home Tour, July 31 -- Sign up to
be a house monitor in one of six beautiful and architecturally significant
homes. Morning and afternoon shifts are available.

Call for Office Donations
|
The AHC is grateful for the many donations of products and services that are so important to the operation of our building.
Our computers are getting
old and have difficulty keeping up with the demands of our business. We currently seek donations of Windows PC Desktop computers. We are in need of machines running Windows XP or Vista. If you or your business has upgraded
your computers and you have a machine that meets our needs, we would love for you to consider making a donation of your older machine to us. Please

Call to artists

AHC Art exhibits are open to our business members, their employees, and our general membership. Our beautiful building offers and ideal location for presentation of 2 dimensional art and is a great place to invite your clients, family, and friends for an opening reception.
We are currently booking shows for 2011 and invite our artist community to apply for a show.
Corporate members: please pass this invitation along to painters, photographers and other 2d artists within your organization.

Whidden and Lewis and the Maturing of Portland Architecture

At the turn of the twentieth century, architects William Whidden and Ion Lewis
stood at the forefront of design in the Pacific Northwest, bringing new
styles and innovations to Portland's commercial, residential, and
public buildings. From the six-story Concord Building to Portland's
City Hall, many of the firm's buildings are today listed in the
National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, their residential
designs were so prolific that a 1989 book, Matters of Proportion,
focused entirely on the firm's Portland houses.

Tour a fantastic 1884 home, learn more about the Clean Energy Works program, and how you can weatherize an older home without impacting its vintage character.
When: Saturday, May 22, 2010 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

Admission: Free with a suggested $10 donation
No pre-registration required. Guided tours will be given on the hour throughout the day. Due to space constraints, each tour is limited to a maximum of 40 people and is first-come first served. The last tour will start at approximately 4:00 p.m. For more information, click here.

Spotlight: Nouveau Realty Group is a local Real-estate Company that focuses on historic real-estate 50 years and older. Risa Davis, The founder of Nouveau, also certifies realtors
across the country on The stewardship and importance of homes on the state and national registries.  Risa became a Realtor in 2003 and began
serving buyers and sellers in Portland's inner eastside and north Portland
where character-driven homes abounded. What she often saw dismayed her:
irreplaceable architectural details and original fixtures being stripped from
homes in the name of modernization, energy savings, or simply because the owner
wanted to expand. Her concern led her to the Architectural Heritage Center, an
organization she found to be dedicated to preserving Portland's character-driven homes. As a
board member Risa continues to serve our organization in outreach, education and
fundraising. Risa understands the importance of calling on other businesses who are engaged with the AHC. She and her husband, Brent, have solicited the assistance of many of our members for the renovation of their own historic north

Historic Preservation
The second annual George McMath Historic Preservation Award HONORS CATHY GALBRAITH!
University of Oregon Historic Preservation Program and Venerable Group, Inc. is honoring Cathy Galbraith, Executive Director of the Bosco-Milligan Foundation, as the Recipient of the 2010 George McMath Historic Preservation Award at a luncheon held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010.  Thanks to everyone who attended our opening reception last week. Connie had a huge crowd of supporters and opening night sales were fantastic. If you missed the reception, make sure you stop by the AHC this month to see the work. There are very affordable and beautiful greeting cards, unframed prints, and an amazing display of well priced framed work. A percentage of all sales is donated to the AHC to support our programs.

New Collections Exploration Tool
for AHC Visitors
Enjoy a virtual tour of our extensive array of architectural artifacts at a computer station in the main lobby.
While we cannot make all of our collections physically available for viewing, the computer station provides access to our database for researchers and those who just want to enjoy the beauty of the objects.
Safety concerns and staff availability limit visitation to our storage warehouses but the computer provides an overview of the broad range of items collected by Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan, and those given to the organization by later donors. Some items, such as wallpaper fragments, are so fragile that they can only be unpacked rarely. If you have not been in for a while, come in and check it out!

Help the AHC be more environmentally sustainable by renewing your membership promptly! Timely responses make your membership contributions go farther because they save paper, postage, and volunteer and staff time.
