Over the years, the ISB has provided healthcare training to healthcare institutions providing care to Muslim patients, and 2011-2012 was no exception.
- In August 2011, ISB provided more copies of the Quran upon request from the
Chaplains' Office for Patients at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The Qurans will be placed in the hospital's Cancer Wellness Center. "Now Muslim patients, during their time of need, can ask for a Quran and chaplains can meet those requests," said ISB's Amani Elghoroury who led this effort. Elghoroury, who is also a nurse at Piedmont, along with her colleague Ellen MacRae, also put together a "Comfort Box" for the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) that included information on religious diversity as well as items to aid in the emotional and spiritual comforting of Muslim patients.
- On September 12, 2011, Amjad Taufique delivered a presentation on "Health Care Provider Training" to a group of four chaplains and three social workers at the Altus Hospice. The audience was most interested in how they can be of service to Muslim patients and their families and needed information on funeral homes and cemeteries used by the Muslim community.
- On October 26, 2011, ISB Executive Director Soumaya Khalifa participated in an interfaith Service of Blessings at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite Hospital. The service, which took place at the interfaith chapel during Chaplaincy Week, honored the work of chaplains and the impact they make as they serve patients and their families. Joining Khalifa in bestowing "blessings" were representatives of the Jewish, Protestant, and Roman Catholic faith traditions.
- On November 29, 2011, Khalifa represented the ISB on a panel at Children's
Health Care of Atlanta in discussing the Muslim patient with eight Clinical Pastoral students and two supervisors. The presentation was part of a panel titled, "Pastoral Care with those who are Jewish and Muslim at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta." Also sitting on the same panel was a representative of the Jewish faith.
