MCAAP Update
October 2009
BMI Screening Practice Survey

On last Tuesday (10/20), the MCAAP launched its BMI Screening Practices survey and sent each of you an email invitation to complete our short survey.  Massachusetts recently mandated BMI screening in schools for 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th graders.  The MCAAP Obesity Committee is surveying the MCAAP membership to assess pediatricians' current BMI screening practices and their opinions regarding mandated BMI screening in schools.  The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete.  If you did not receive your email invitation, please contact spietras@tuftsmedicalcenter.org.

We appreciate you participation!  You will receive an email reminder from us in 2 weeks if you have not yet had the chance to complete the survey.  Contact Cathleen Haggerty (chaggerty@mcaap.org ) with questions or comments.

Medical-Legal Partnership in Massachusetts:
A Prescription for Vulnerable Patients
10 am - 4 pm | November 2, 2009 | Worcester, MA

Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) is an innovative tool for improving the health and well-being of low-income individuals, children, and families. Through collaborative planning, reciprocal training efforts, and integration of legal services in the clinical setting, health care providers and legal professionals team up to address the social determinants of health, including unsafe housing, hunger, and domestic violence.

Please join us and other key stakeholders for a day of learning and networking at the first-ever Massachusetts state-wide conference on MLP.
We are honored that Congressman Jim McGovern of the Massachusetts Third Congressional District will be joining us as keynote speaker.
You'll also hear from representatives of the:

Family Advocates of Central Massachusetts (a partnership of the Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts and the University of Massachusetts Medical School)
Disparities Action Network
American Bar Association
and many more!

Panels will feature perspectives on best practices in training, service delivery, systemic advocacy, research and evaluation, fundraising, and more.
