Useful Info and Links
For those of you using Constant Contact, you will notice that as of April 20th, they now have a new editing program., Pic Monkey. It is VERY similar to the Picnic interface (which I know many of you were stymied by). Here is a great post explaining how and why to use this really helpful new tool!
I have yet to meet a single person that truly prefers the new Timeline format on Facebook. While I do love the top cover image (for those businesses that do have fabulous images to share) I am not loving the rest. Here are two posts discussing engagement and the pros and cons of the new format. If you have a strong opinion either way or have some success stories to share, please do so on my Facebook Page.
Thank you! |

When You Have Run Out of Time

In my last post, 'Timing is Everything' I encouraged you to create an editorial calendar to optimize your opportunities to use timing to increase exposure of your content and posts.

You Look Maaavalous
OK - so many of you may not remember Billy Crystal saying this but you DO want your clients and customers saying this about your online presence. The quickest way to test is to just pull up your website (and your e-news too), on your own hand held device. Then, check it on every other format you can - have an iphone? ask a friend or colleague with an Android to check it out for you. Ditto on various tablets.
Data shows that 88% of American adults have mobile phones. A huge percentage of those are using them for everything from social networking to watching videos and uploading photos to e-commerce
If you have any flash on your site, you will notice that it will not display on any i devices. Speak to your web designer (or give us a call!).
Here are some interesting posts regarding the growth of mobile usage:

More and more people WILL be viewing you online, make sure you are ready!

Creating an Event on Facebook - Tips + Tutorial

Personally, I have found that more people register for my events via my e-newsletter and live networking but if you are holding an event, it is often a good idea to post them on both Facebook and LinkedIn as well. For my community I think that these posts serve as a reminder about the event and they definitely facilitate social sharing, making it very easy for someone to suggest the event to a friend or link.
Unfortunately, figuring out WHERE to create the event on Facebook is often the biggest challenge - see below for an easy, step by step tutorial, with screen shots.
But first, here are some things to keep in mind when setting up an event
- Give everyone advanced notice - send out a 'hold the date' or an early announcement so people can get the info onto their (probably very busy!) calendars
- If you use an event tool like Constant Contact, be sure to include THAT link in your LinkedIn and/or Facebook post.
- Include a clear call to action to ask people to register using the link provided - sometimes, people will just click the button to say 'yes' they will attend and think that they are registered. This can often cause more harm than good so be sure to add a note to clarify where they need to click to register.
- Be sure to ask people to socially share the event. Remind them to pass the invitation along to anyone that may be interested in this type of event.
- Just because you CAN spam your entire community with your event info, please don't! Using the 'Share' button you can post to your own timeline, the timeline of friends (I highly recommend against this unless you have permission to do so!), any group you are a member of (make sure the group guidelines allow this) and are able to send an invitation as a personal message to any of your 'friends'. Be careful and considerate as you share your info!
