LinkedIn is a powerful networking tool that can help just about any professional. If you are an Author, there are a number of ways to use LinkedIn to position yourself as an expert to and increase exposure for your book.

 

The first is to build a community of people that can benefit from your book. Ideally, your book will solve some problems for a specific demographic.  Identify that group, on LinkedIn and try to connect with them.

Facebook is Transitioning to Timelines for Business Pages

 Timelines for Facebook Business Pages

As you are probably aware, all Facebook Business Pages will transition to the new Timeline format as of March 30th (or so they say!).  In order to be ready for the change, please make sure you have a new, high resolution image for the 'cover' (top) of the page, and resize your profile shot to fit the new square format.  You will also need to re-order your tabs as only the first four will be visible and you will have the option of re-naming the tabs and adding an image to each as well. Unfortunately, you will no longer have the option of setting a landing page so any 'fan-gates' or 'Welcome' pages will not work in the new format (not yet anyway! My guess is that they may become available again, for a fee, in a later update)

 

I was going to write a tutorial about this but there are so many good articles out here, I will link to them instead.

Remember to take advantage of the time we have before the switch is mandatory to make the changes in PREVIEW mode - then you can play with it and tweak it so it is ready for prime time before you flip the switch.

 

I haven't met a single person yet that is happy with the new two column layout but hopefully it will improve over time and we will get more comfortable with it. I do like the ability to highlight posts (then they span the two columns) and LOVE being able to 'pin' posts so they stay on top of the timeline.  Please visit my FB page to see a Business Page with Timeline live and be sure to 'Like' it and check back often for timely tips and updates!

If you are using social media to share your expertise and establish yourself as a go-to person in your industry or niche, answering questions on LinkedIn and Twitter may be a good tactic to consider.  If you already search LinkedIn for questions to answer, getting the questions sent to you, via RSS feed, is a great way to be sure that you do not miss any good opportunities!

Hootsuite - helping you manage your Social Media Presence:

 

For those of you that have ever taken my Social Media Management and Monitoring webinars, training classes or one-on-one sessions, you know I am a huge Hootsuite fan. I highly recommend it for anyone that is looking to manage more than one social media profile. It offers a 'one stop shopping' approach to posting, allowing you to post to multiple profiles at once and, importantly, allows you to schedule posts so that you can queue them up in advance and spend the time you have online actually engaging rather than posting!

 

Now they have introduced a great new app that helps you identify questions on Twitter based on your keywords.  If you are answering questions on social media as a way to share your expertise, this is a VERY useful tool!
